Eighties icon Rob Lowe, 52, is in 'talks' to replace Michael Strahan as Kelly Ripa's co-host on Live!

It looks as if there could already be a replace for Michael Strahan on Live!

For Eighties icon Rob Lowe is reportedly holding talks with the show's producers to serve as co-host to Kelly Ripa.

The Illegally Yours heartthrob served as co-host when Regis Philbin left the ABC show back in 2011, and has admitted he is now in a position where he would be able to accept the job.

Rob told Entertainment Tonight: 'I hosted it with Kelly and had the time of my life. I love her.

'I love being able to talk to an audience every morning like that and just being fun, counter-punching, being silly, and talking about cool stuff.'

A key reason he would be up for the role is his son John, 19, is now studying at Stanford University, while his oldest boy Matthew, 21, is gearing up to attend law school.

The Youngblood favourite said: 'My kids are out of the house, they weren't then. Who knows.

However he admitted there is one person he would be terrified of trying to beat off in a job interview.

Rob said: 'Listen, man, I don't want to go up against Anderson Cooper. I don't know if I'm going to go back as an actual guest host yet. You never know, you never know.'

The newsman has been strongly linked to the role, and he also has strong daytime experience after his spell hosting solo daytime TV vehicle Anderson Live from 2011 to 2013.

Another plus point for Cooper, who is a member of the influential Vanderbilt family, is he is also close friends with Kelly.

What a shocker: Kelly is said to have been fuming after learning Strahan was leaving the show for a plum role on Good Morning America

Rob had previously been in talks for the role back in 2012 following Regis' departure, but it seems his busy schedule in Los Angeles, which included a role in Parks And Recreation at the time, precluded a move.

Former star NFL defensive end Strahan ended up getting the job.

But in April ABC said he would be leaving the show after landing a plum role on Good Morning America, a development that is said to have infuriated his co-host.

Former soap star Kelly made headlines when she took a 'sick day' after being blindsided by the news of his departure and the strained relationship between the two that resulted is likely the reason his scheduled September departure was brought forward to May 13.
