Hair today, gone tomorrow: England captain Wayne Rooney displays thinning bald patch on his crown as he steps out for training

He famously forked out 15k on a hair transplant in 2011, and underwent a second procedure in 2013.

And it seems Wayne Rooney could be in need of yet another operation since the England captain was seen sporting a fresh bald patch when he joined his teammates for training on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old footballer's hair was noticeably thinning on top as he left The Lowry Hotel in Manchester, clad in his kit.

Wayne looked like he was ready for action in his red zip-up top and navy trousers, teamed with Nike trainers.

The father-of-three - who raises sons Kai, six, Klay, three, and Kit, four months, with his wife Coleen, was looking fresh, clutching a toiletry bag in one hand.

The Manchester United star, who started balding when he was in his early twenties, has previously spent thousands of pounds from his prodigious football earnings on transplants in a bid to thicken his locks.

In 2011 he splashed out £15,000 on extensive hair transplant surgery, sharing the impressive results with followers on Twitter.

The striker had previously opened up about his surgery in a confessional tweet earlier that year.

He wrote: ‘Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 why not. I’m delighted with the result. It’s still a bit bruised and swollen when it dies down u will be first to see it.'

With a jokey flourish he added: ‘Anyone recommend any good hair gel. Haha. I had it done in Harley street hair clinic London. Thanks to all the staff who looked after me.’

The striker underwent another hair transplant in the same clinic in 2013 for a further nine hours of surgery.

Speaking to the Mirror, hair transplant surgeon Asim Shahmalak said his second op had been carried out to cover fresh bald patches.

He said: ‘Wayne has kept hold of the hair from his first transplant at the front of his head. But he has continued to lose his hair further back on his head and his crown. It has given him two noticeable bald patches.

‘The only way to remedy this was with a second hair transplant.’
