Barack Obama warmly embraced a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic strike, centre, shortly after he laid a wreath to the victims of the attack, right. In a historic visit, Obama became the first sitting president to visit the city which was destroyed on August 6, 1945 by a single nuclear bomb. The president, who was joined at the ceremony by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, bottom left, spoke of his desire to see a world without nuclear weapons. Addressing the crowd who had gathered in the memorial park in Hiroshima today, top left, he said the attack 'demonstrated that mankind possessed the means to destroy itself'. Obama was careful not to apologize for President Harry Truman's decision to authorize the strike and a second attack on Nagasaki three days later. He later left an inscription in the visitor's book. Obama wrote: 'We have known the agony of war. Let us now find the courage, together, to spread peace, and pursue a world without nuclear weapons.'

145-year-old coffin with young girl found under a San Francisco home

The 3-foot casket is believed to belong to a three-year-old girl, whose skin and hair, weaved with lavender flowers, were perfectly preserved. The incident, at a marble quarry close to the city of Murmansk in Russia's north-western Murmansk Oblast region, was caught on video. The clip begins with the girl, 19-year-old Maryana, being cheered by her friends as she prepares to leap from a cliff top (left) platform. The bungee cord is attached to another line across a gorge so that jumpers cross from side-to-side while simultaneously bouncing up-and-down. Maryana's jump seems to be going to plan as she plunges towards the river below (centre) before being pulled back up by the cord at the last second. But then she shoots across the gorge too fast and slams into the rocks on the other side (right).

The world heritage site is one of many that will be threatened by climate change - with other famous sites under threat including the Statue of Liberty, Venice and the Galapagos Islands.

Australian native Bobby-Jo Clow, 33, has been taking pictures of beautiful elephants since 2004, when she was left mesmerised after seeing her first wild elephant in Kenya. Since then, she has made regular pilgrimages to southern and eastern Africa to capture the stunning creatures on camera in their natural habitat. Now, Bobby-Jo has narrowed down her thousands of images to just 200, and is planning to create a book of her beautiful pictures called Reflections of Elephants.
