Kelly Ripa's 'symbol of stupidity' has disappeared: Talk show host's ankle tattoo from her All My Children days is barely visible on New York outing

She used to show off a small, red floral tattoo above her left ankle.

But on Thursday as she stepped out in New York City, Kelly Ripa's familiar inking was all but gone.

It's unclear if the 45-year-old had had laser treatments to remove the tattoo or if it was just covered up.

But it was nowhere to be seen as she flashed her toned pins in a floral dress and chic wedges.

The four-inch-long tattoo was of a red rose with a few green leaves, and was also embellished with a black wave design around it.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times in 2001, Kelly joked that the story behind it was 'no story,' revealing that she got it at age 19 while in San Antonio for her first personal appearance for All My Children.

'I had two hours to kill and the limo driver said, 'Why don't you get a tattoo?' I did it,' Kelly shared of the decision.

And as to what inspired the design, she added: 'The flower? I told the guy to do whatever he had. That was it.'

Later, speaking with Elle in 2011, the ABC talk show host joked that she calls it 'the symbol of my stupidity.'

Kelly also has a tattoo of husband Mark's last name - Consuelos - in script on her left wrist, which she debuted on Live! with Regis and Kelly back in 2011.

She and husband Mark had been married for 13 years at the time (now 20), and shared that she had gotten the new ink at Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn.

Goodbye! Kelly has been working on getting rid of the tattoo, likely getting laser treatments as she has been seen sporting a bandage over it, such as in July 2013 (L), later showing off a more faded version of the inking in September of that year (R)

The blonde beauty also has a lower back tattoo, which she spoke about in her 2011 Elle interview, though she shared she'd 'rather not say' what it is.

She did, however, disclose that she had gotten the tattoo on her wedding night.

Meanwhile, on Thursday Kelly looked lovely in a sleeveless, black dress, which hugged in her slim waist and featured a pleated, floral skirt.

She covered the spring number with an eye-catching red cardigan, and accessorized with strappy, black leather wedges.

The mother-of-three carried files in her hands as she was seen making her way to work in the morning as she left her apartment, also toting an olive green, leather backpack.

Her shoulder-length blonde tresses were worn in a center part and styled straight, and she hid her eyes behind a pair of over-sized sunglasses.

On Thursday Kelly's close friend - and one of her top picks to replace Michael Strahan as her co-host - Andy Cohen joined her for the renamed Live with Kelly.

And she seemed thrilled as she shared a series of Instagram videos and photos, such as a hilarious face swap of the pair, as they prepared to host the talk show together.
