'I appreciate scripts that empower women': Game Of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer opens up about feminism and what it's like to play strong female characters

She portrays a queen attempting to position herself on the Iron Throne.

And for Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer the ability to play strong characters is something she relishes, saying: 'I appreciate scripts that empower women.'

Talking to Sunday Style, the 34-year-old English beauty said while she enjoys the challenge playing characters, it's not something she feels a responsibility to do.

'I'm an actor and my bible is my text. As an actor, my job is to be a vessel for the writer's words,' she told the publication.

'I look to play women who feel real, who feel three-dimensional and also a bit contradictory, because that's what it is to be human,' the star continued.

'So if there is a pattern of me playing strong women, it's because I think I see that in the script when I get it.

'I just want to play real people who overcome their trials and challenges on a day-to-day basis, because that's what we're all trying to do.'

Natalie plays Margaery Tyrell in the popular HBO series.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, the actress revealed that her character ventures into unknown territory when it comes knowing how to best handle a dangerous situation.

'Over the five years that I’ve played Margaery we’ve seen in her in a lot of sticky situations, but she’s never been out of her depth,' Natalie told EW.

'She’s always given the impression, at least, of being a step ahead. In season 6, you see her genuinely fearful of how best to handle the situation.'

'She is scared and uncertain. She starts to look unrecognisable in places.'

Meanwhile, Natalie will be honored at the 2016 Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards in June at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

As well as promoting Game Of Thrones, the starlet has spent much of the past year shooting the supernatural horror film The Forest in Belgrade, Serbia.

The Forest is set in the Aokigahara Forest in Japan, which is known as the Suicide Forest and follows Natalie's character, Sara who goes there in search of her missing twin sister.
