President Obama seems to have earned the adoration of at least one new fan during his trip to Japan.

While on his way to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial for his historic visit on Friday, Obama made a pit stop at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station in Iwakuni, Japan.

The president gave a speech while at the base but one of his most impressive moments came later with one of the crowd's youngest members.

As Obama greeted the crowd, which was eagerly waiting to meet the leader of the American people with cell phones in hand, the president was handed a crying baby.

Obama held the baby for a moment and bounced him on his hip as he appeared to speak to the diaper-clad child.

When Obama handed the baby back to his mother, he appeared to no longer be crying.

Instead, the pudgy baby looked at the president, seemingly in awe.

Although the president brought joy to the tyke, he has angered Americans back home who say he is using his final year in office to go on an 'apology tour'.

Despite the White House stressing that Obama would not apologize for President Harry Truman's actions in 1945 that killed 140,000, claims that he was using the visit to express regret were rampant.

Later on Friday, president Obama paid tribute to victims of the first atomic bomb in Hiroshima. He is the first American leader to visit the city devastated by the bomb that helped end World War II.

Obama laid a wreath at the site of the atomic bombing, a symbolic gesture that Tokyo and Washington hope will highlight their alliance and breathe life into efforts to abolish nuclear arms.

He also signed the guestbook at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, writing: 'We have known the agony of war.

'Let us now find the courage, together, to spread peace, and pursue a world without nuclear weapons.'
