The curse of the frumpy formalwear: Bea and Eugenie suffer ANOTHER fashion fail at garden party with Prince Andrew - just hours after glamorous appearance at fancy dress party

  • Princess Eugenie, 26, and sister Beatrice, 27, attended Not Forgotten Association garden party
  • Beatrice wore colour block dress by Roskanda and fascinator with spikey pink leaves
  • Eugenie looked washed out in ill fitting white top and blue floral skirt
  • Wore strange feathered headpiece which sat uncomfortably on her forehead

Hours earlier they had hit the town in sleek and glamorous outfits for a fancy dress party.

But though Princess Beatrice, 27, and her younger sister Eugenie, 26, may have nailed a youthful look that suits a night out with friends, they still seem to struggle with formal wear.

Today the pair suffered another fashion fail as they stepped out with their father Prince Andrew for the annual Not Forgotten Association garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Beatrice wore a navy pink and yellow colour block fit and flare dress by Roskanda but covered her arms in a short bolero jacket in a matching shade of navy and carried an Edie Parker clutch bag.

Meanwhile her sister looked uncomfortable in a blue feathered headpiece and an ill fitting white top and blue floral skirt that did nothing to flatter her figure.

Helen Canning, stylist and founder of Coco Mama Style said that the girls are frequently on the edge of getting it right but sometimes hit the wrong note.

'The Princesses often just miss the mark in the style stakes, edging a little too far on the quirky side and not quite pulling it together,' she told FEMAIL.

'While it can’t be easy choosing an outfit as young Royals who want to look current, but also appropriate for royal engagements, it is possible to find looks which tick both boxes.'

She said that Beatrice's choice of a cropped jacket this afternoon showed off her slim waist.

Stand out in this Roksanda color block dress

Say what you will about Princess Beatrice's garden party look, it certainly won't sway our opinion. We happen to think her navy and pink color blocked dress by Roksanda looked marvelous and perfect for the occasion.

While yesterday, we were treated to a chic sartorial display by the Princess as she traipsed the town for a night out in London.

Today wasn't the proper time to showcase her edgy fashion cred. So she slipped on this wonderful piece that rendered her youthful and appropriate for the occasion.

We love the vibrant dash of yellow and pink that pops off the navy color-- a specialty of the house for Roksanda, queen of color block.

Sadly, this dress is now sold out but that doesn't mean we can get something similar on the virtual high street! That being said, why don't you take a look at some of our favorites below?

Eugenie looked slightly uncomfortable in her feathered number
Beatrice also opted for a unique item of headgear

Both sisters are fans of a fascinator. Eugenie looked slightly uncomfortable in her feathered number while Beatrice also opted for a unique item of headgear

'But the sizing isn’t great with its snug fit on the arms and the boxy shape adds bulk to her frame,' she said. 'If it’s upper arm coverage she’s after, a dress with sleeves would be a good option to keep the top half fuss-free and a nipped-in waist to highlight one of her best features.'

Helen said Eugenie's neckline was spot on for her shape, but the extra fabric around the waist swamped her figure.

'I can see what Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice try to do with their headwear and that is to liven up more mature outfits but it doesn’t quite work and often looks accidental,' she said.

'A splash of colour in a less fussy headpiece would serve to complement their look and not overpower it and positioning is key; keep it off your face and don’t let it wear you.

'Necklines and hemlines should of course be appropriate for such occasions to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions but these more conservative shapes don’t mean dressing beyond their years.

'Print and colour should be their friends and to avoid any fashion fails my advice would be to keep it simple and therefore more timeless and ageless. So go bold, Princesses, but stick to one statement piece - not more than two in one outfit.

'I would love to see the Princesses showing off their love of quirky pieces in a fun pair of heels, perhaps by Sophia Webster, with a well fitted dress.

'For both of them the key is to show off their waists so a fit and flare style or slim-fitting empire line dress in a bold print or bright block colour with contrasting accessories would look young and fun, yet royally appropriate.'

The Not Forgotten Association's garden parties at Buckingham Palace date back to the 1920s, and the first one was hosted by the Queen mother to mark the contribution of those in the armed forces

But as the Queen scales back on her royal duties in her 90th year she has passed on the role of host to her son the Duke of York.

The charity provides entertainment, leisure and recreation for the serving wounded, injured or sick and for ex-service men and women with disabilities, and the annual garden party is its biggest event of the year.

Last night, the Princesses swapped their usual modest looks for racy rock chick style as they headed to a fancy dress party at Ours nightclub in London.

Beatrice arrived hand-in-hand with her long term boyfriend Dave Clarke wearing a thigh skimming black mini dress with a studded leather gilet.

She appeared to have crimped her flowing red tresses for the occasion to give a more voluminous look. And she completed the ensemble with a pair of gold t-bar sandals.

The royal kept her make up relatively natural but opted for smokey eyes and heavy black liner to complement her gothic look.

Boyfriend Dave was equally in keeping with the rocker vibe, wearing a Guns N' Roses t shirt with a sleeveless leather jacket.

Dave, who works for Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space programme, swapped his normal preppy chinos and shirts for a pair of grey skinny jeans and black boots.

Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie initially appeared to be more covered up than her sister in a black belted coat with leather sleeves.

Clearly aiming to vamp up her style, she added a slick of red lipstick.

Crowds spilled out at the end of the fancy dress party but the royal sisters weren't ready to go home yet

Both sisters were clearly in the party mood as they weren't ready to finish the night once the party ended.

They were spotted leaving Ours and going on to a private party on South Audley Street in Mayfair, which is home to several exclusive private members clubs.

The pair partied into the small hours with Beatrice finally calling it a night at 3 am,.

Her sister stayed out even later and didn't leave until 4 am.

Beatrice is clearly enjoying her time in London and has been present at a number of family occasions in recent weeks, despite being based in New York.

She works full time for a fashion investment company, having landed the prestigious role earlier this year.

Her new opportunity came after she completed a finance course at a university in San Francisco.

Nonetheless she was there for the Queen's 90th birthday show at Windsor Castle almost two weeks ago and attended the last of the monarch's summer garden parties at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

Her sister Eugenie also enjoyed a stint in New York, working for auction house Paddle 8.

However, she returned last year to take up a position as Associate Director at Saville Row gallery Hauser & Wirth.

It was reported, though, that she was banned from taking holidays after enjoying an astonishing 25 days’ leave in her first ten weeks at the gallery.

Beatrice meanwhile is no stranger to a foreign jaunt either, enjoying no fewer than 18 exotic jaunts last year, including ski ing in Verbier, the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi and a sunshine break in Ibiza.

Her year of travel culminated in a trip to St Barts to spend New Year’s Eve with Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich at his £59million home.
