He was performing for thousands of people in Barcelona.

But Coldplay's Chris Martin only had eyes for 12-year-old daughter Apple when he took to the stage on Friday night - as his ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, documented.

The Hollywood actress, 43, took to Instagram to share a sweet snap of the pair during the band's latest live show.

Showing the youngster watching her father from the sidelines, he could be seen blowing her a kiss as he sings into the microphone.

She captioned the image with: 'Sometimes your dad really needs you to visit him at work'.

Unsurprisingly, the image was 'liked' more than 50,000 times and received plenty of affirmative comments.

The social media moment comes just weeks after Chris conceded that his split from Gwyneth Paltrow had caused him a 'year of depression'.

'I still wake up down a lot of days. But now I feel like I've been given the tools to turn it around,' he said.

In his first proper interview, Martin, 39, spoke frankly about his 'very wonderful separation-divorce' - bizarrely dubbed 'conscious uncoupling' at the time by Hollywood star Paltrow's lifestyle website, Goop.

Opening up: The 39-year-old told The Sunday Times - 'You can come at it very aggressively and blame and blame. Or you can put yourself in the garage, so to speak. Take yourself apart and clean off the bits'

The singer told the Sunday Times the divorce is a 'weird one', and that he still goes on holiday with his actress ex-wife, 43, who is the mother of his two children Apple, 11, and Moses, nine.

Speaking from Santa Monica, California, he said he had become better at dealing with difficult times.

'You can come at it very aggressively and blame and blame. Or you can put yourself in the garage, so to speak. Take yourself apart and clean off the bits. Reassemble,' he said.

The split term that'll go down in history: Chris and Gwyneth's 'conscious uncoupling' has now become as much a part of popular culture as their 10-year-marriage

He added he has been inspired by Man's Search for Meaning by psychologist and Auschwitz survivor Viktor Frankl, an account of his experiences in the death camp published in 1946.

Persian poet Rumi's work, The Guest house, also inspired his recovery.

He added: 'That one Rumi poem changes everything. It says that even when you're unhappy, it's good for you.

'It took me a year to get it. A year of depression and all that.'

He may have remained friends with his ex-wife but Martin admitted to giving up on her vegetarianism, as he said he has been following the same diet as the boxer Rocky.

Last year Paltrow sent him divorce papers but it is understood they have not been filled in yet, so the process has not been completed.

It is thought the pair have a combined fortune of £120million, which they plan to divide.

On the details of their relationship, Martin said: 'It's always out there in the media, but I have a very wonderful separation-divorce. It's a divorce but it's a weird one.

'It's funny. I don't think about that word very often- divorce. I don't see it that way. I see it more like you meet someone, you have some time together and things just move through.

'I've lived a lot of life since then.'

His Coldplay collaborator Phil Harvey said: 'We were all worried about him - the band, his family. When someone's really, really low and on their own a lot, as a friend, your mind goes to the worst-case scenario.

'That period didn't last for ever, but there was a time when we were all regularly checking in on him, just trying to make sure he wasn't on his own.'
