'I'm holding on to hope': Nashville star Clare Bowen reveals scrapped musical series isn't over yet... just weeks after show was cancelled on her birthday

She was recently crushed when ABC cancelled Nashville on her birthday.

But Clare Bowen has high hopes that the show will be revived with a different network.

Speaking during a podcast interview in Sydney on Friday, the Aussie actress - who played shy singer Scarlett O'Connor in the country musical - said efforts are being made to save the show.

'I do want everyone to know that Lionsgate is doing everything in their power to find us a new network home ... they're having numerous talks with networks,' she told Mamamia's The Binge.

'Scarlet is a little part of my heart and I'll always be there, I'm not going to leave Nashville. I just bought my first home there with my fiancé ... I have great hope so I hope everybody's holding on to hope with me.'

Clare, who announced her engagement to songwriter Brandon Robert Young last year, joined the series in 2012 during season one as a Deacon's niece and talented musician partner to Gunnar Scott.

It was on her May 12 birthday that the ABC network scrapped the series prompting fans to launch a petition demanding the show's return.

'The petition that's going around that has just kind of exploded, it's just such a wonderful thing that we've made people happy that people are will to sign,' she said.

The 32-year-old actress recalled the dreadful moment that she learned the show had been axed after four seasons and said that ultimately, it was not her decision.

'We were all really shocked. We were all set to go for season five ... These things happen though when networks get somebody new in ... there was a big shakeup and we all got a really big surprise,' she said.

The Nashville resident is currently performing across Australia as she gears up for the release of her debut album later this year.

On Thursday, she and Brandon took to the stage at Sydney's Oxford Arts Factory to perform a set of original songs as well as familiar covers from the Nashville series.

The former Home And Away actress credits Academy award-winner Cate Blanchett for giving her the confidence to pursue a career abroad.

'She took me aside and said that I should go for it, and try for America,' she told The Daily Telegraph. 'She really encouraged me to do something that I found totally terrifying.'

Last year, Clare - who battled cancer as a child - made headlines when she chopped off her long blonde locks in favor of a pixie haircut to inspire others.

The gesture was made after she heard 'a story about a little girl who said she couldn't be a princess because she didn't have long hair,' she wrote on Facebook.
