Cincinnati Zoo gorilla Harambe killed to protect boy who fell into enclosure

Cincinnati Zoo shot and killed the 17-year-old, 400lb gorilla after it manhandled a young child who crawled into its enclosure. A terrifying video showed the monstrous animal playing with the boy but more graphic footage - in which it dragged him underwater - could not be shown. The child fell between ten to 12ft into the moat, where he remained with the gorilla for at least ten minutes. Three gorillas - the male and two females - were in the enclosure at the time but the male, Harmabe, refused to come out when called by zoo workers. The boy, who has not been named, was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center with serious injuries.

Tickets for the glamorous occasion at the Excel Centre in east London were sold out today and as many as 135,000 die-hard enthusiasts are expected to descend on the capital for the three-day event. Characters from comic books, hit movies, cartoons and computer games all came together and posed next to each other to show off their fantastic costumes. Two women dressed up at the second day of the popular event (bottom left) and another woman wore leather and had her face painted to celebrate the occasion (bottom left). New trend sees women designing intricate nail bracelets on their fingernails 

For those who love to stay ahead of the manicure curve, 'bracelet nails' are something to hop on board with. Equal parts sophisticated, pretty and subtle, the style hails from Korea, and sees tiny intricate jewels and gems (pictured) designed and actually stuck onto women's fingernails. The process uses real charms, and can take as long as two and a half hours to complete.
