Britain's lax border controls were branded a 'complete mess' last night as experts warned vast swathes of coastline were wide open to migrants. Police have said the parents of a four-year-old who climbed into a gorilla's enclosure could be facing criminal charges after staff were forced to kill the beloved animal. The 400-pound gorilla named Harambe was shot dead by Cincinnati Zoo officials just one day after his 17th birthday after the boy climbed through barriers and fell into the enclosure, pictured left. The incident, which was captured on cell phone, has sparked an outcry of emotion as mourners called it a 'senseless death'. Many are placing the blame squarely on the parents of a four-year-old boy. New documents have revealed Amber Heard previously considered herself married to her former partner Tasya Van Ree, before she ever tied the knot with Johnny Depp, who she has now filed for divorce from. While gay marriage was not legal at the time, former couple did everything that would make them as legally close to married as possible, according to The Mirror. The newspaper reports it has seen legal documents that show the two women viewed themselves as a married couple even if on paper the word was not available to them eight years ago.

Heard, who was clasping a laptop computer, arrived at the office at around 3.30pm on Saturday and left at about 7.30pm. In court documents, where she details the alleged violence during their 15-month marriage, Heard said she 'lived in fear' of the Pirates of the Caribbean star and had the idea he could return to the L.A. condominium they shared to 'terrorize me physically and emotionally.' She has been photographed in an emotional state this week (top insert image) following the allegations.

Ella Clarke, 32, from Torquay, Devon, has gone from being an active mother to being instantly wheelchair-bound after the birth of her eighth child Winter Rose. A near-fatal condition caused by her placenta led to a haemorrhage, hysterectomy and then blood clotting while she was in an induced coma. Ella says she's now a shadow of her former self and her other children (inset) are now too scared to cuddle her after her limbs were removed while she was unconscious.

On the surface Russian family Svetlana and Yuriy Panteleenko appear like any other ordinary couple, but for their 23-year-old bear named Stepan. Standing at more than seven foot, the 300lb mammal is so domesticated the family often sit down together in the evenings to watch television. A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured after being attacked by a shark on a Florida beach. Lifeguards estimate the shark that bit the unidentified boy was about five to six feet long. The shark latched on to the backside of the boy's right knee and his calf before swimming off. The boy and his stepfather were swimming in chest-deep water about two-feet deep on Sunday afternoon when the shark attacked. Although the boy's injuries were deemed 'severe' they are not believed to be life-threatening.

David Pagan Butler (centre), 54, a filmmaker from Saxthorpe, Norfolk, built a pool that serves as a fresh water habitat and works with plants and animals to provide hygienic water for swimming. He is now teaching others to do the same through a step-by-step YouTube video, which has been viewed more than five million times. A former 'mommy blogger' has told of how her pastime became a grueling, life-sapping business that left her feeling depressed and disconnected from her children.  In 2013 Josi Denise was a 24-year-old former marketing director who found that raising two kids in Miami wasn't enough to still her restless mind. As a distraction, she started her blog 'The American Mama,' which she turned into a powerhouse that attracted thousands of readers and free gifts from major companies. But her commercial success was a personal disaster that distanced herself from her son Nicholas and daughter Gabriella (both top-right). And it wasn't until the birth of her second son, Leonardo (bottom-right) in 2015 that she found the strength to make a change.

Historians discovered a code machine used by Adolf Hitler (inset) to swap top secret messages with his generals when they noticed it was being advertised on eBay for £9.50. Volunteers from the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park tracked down the extremely rare Lorenz keyboard after seeing it on the online bidding site. It was being advertised as a telegram machine (main pictured) and the historian found that it had just been left in a shed in Southend, Essex, with 'rubbish all over it'. John Wetter, a volunteer at the museum, said: 'We said "Thank you very much, how much was it again?" She said "£9.50", so we said "Here's a £10 note - keep the change".'

Dazzling in the darkness, this ethereal New Zealand cave is illuminated by the light of thousands of glow worms. Auckland-based photographer Shaun Jeffers spent a year capturing the magical displays inside Ruakuri Cave in the Waitomo area, proving that the country is just as beautiful below ground as it is above. The luminous glow worms, called Arachnocampa luminosa, are unique to New Zealand and emit a phosphorescent glow in order to catch prey and attract mates.

Bizarre video set to creepy music in China shows the dog riding the tricycle with its back legs. Two of the canine's mates, seemingly a couple of Bichon Frises, happily ride along in the carriages. The strange video of the pets was posted on LiveLeak on Sunday. Commenters under the video are split on whether they think the stunt is cute or cruel.

During a presentation at the University of Washington Trong Huynh suddenly appeared under the projection screen to interrupt a teaching assistant's environmental sciences class. One of his fellow students filmed him crashing to the ground leaving the lecturer completely speechless, before he uploaded the footage to his YouTube channel.
