Virginia toddler receives first and second degree burns despite being covered in factor 50 sunscreen during Memorial Weekend beach trip

  • After leaving the water, his mother dried him fully and reapplied the lotion
  • Sayers said her son suffered blistering on his face and across his nose  

A three-year-old boy suffered first and second degree burns following a day to the beach in Virginia despite being covered in high-factor sunscreen by his mother. 

Liam Sayers was with his mother Jennifer on Eastern Shore in Virginia for the Memorial Weekend holiday. 

Sayers had sprayed her son with SPF 50+ Banana Boat kids spray sunscreen before allowing the youngster to play.

Sayers told CBS 6: 'Multiple times during the day we had the kids come out of the water, dried them off completely and then reapplied the sun spray as directed.' 

She even covered her hands with the lotion before applying it to her son.  

She said: 'When he got up for the day, his eyes were almost swollen shut, he had swelling and blistering all over his face, primarily on his cheeks and nose,
