The rest is still unwritten? MTV is working on a movie version of The Hills which will reunite the original cast 'but are waiting on one holdout star'

It has been ten years since Natasha Bedingfield's Unwritten ballad signalled the start of one of the most loved reality shows of all time, and now a reunion is so close fans can almost taste it.

If marking a decade since the first episode of The Hills aired was not enough for fans, MTV are now reportedly trying to put together a film version of the show.

Entertainment Weekly reports that a film adaptation of the program is very close to being made - the network just needs to convince one pivotal star to come on board.

A source told EW that original stars Whitney Port and Audrina Patridge have been approached as well as late comer Kristin Cavallari, who joined the program in the fifth season.

EW reports the trio all expressed an interested in being involved in the reunion movie.

However, there is just one hold out - arguably the biggest star - Lauren 'LC' Conrad.

While her rep refused to comment about the film or her potential involvement when asked by the publication, according to the source signing on Lauren is critical.

While Lauren owes her fame to the show and her first reality series Laguna Beach - which The Hills was a spin-off of - she is now a successful designer, lifestyle blogger and author.

There was no mention of signing other original cast member Heidi Montag however, as the star along with her husband Spencer Pratt left the show on bad terms.

Spencer even allegedly falsely accused creator Adam DiVello of being sexually in appropriate.

While their return is unlikely, if producers can get Lauren to sign on, they already have a plot in mind that will allow them to pick up where they left off in July, 2010.

The source told EW that the initial concept is that the film would start with Audrina's wedding in Australia.

The star, who is currently pregnant, met fiance Australian BMX rider Corey Bohan while she was on the show, and fans watched along on one of their first dates.

Following the wedding, the film would catch up with the cast, an in what EW described as 'à la the first Sex and the City movie'.

The film would look in into at how their lives have changed now that they are older, some are married and others have children.

While fans wait with baited breath to find out if LC will join the reunion and allow the film to go ahead, to tide them over MTV is releasing a where are they now show, The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now, airing August 2.
