Steph Curry, Magic Johnson and Shaquille O'Neal fall victim to Jimmy Kimmel's Mean Tweets in special NBA edition

Not even NBA stars are safe from Jimmy Kimmel's Mean Tweets.

The comedian drew in some of the biggest names in basketball to read out cruel online comments about themselves for Thursday's episode of his talk show.

Among those joining in the fun in honour of the NBA finals taking place in Oakland, California were Steph Curry, Magic Johnson and Shaquille O'Neal.

Curry's was perhaps the cruellest of the bunch, and certainly drew some shocked reactions from the audience.

'Have you ever been downloading something online and halfway through it just froze and couldn’t go anywhere?' he read out. 'Think Steph Curry’s puberty.'

Fortunately the 28-year-old Golden State Warriors found it hilarious, and admitted he had to give the Twitter user credit for their 'good' insult.

Shaq also had a hilarious reaction to being called a 'fat a** old man' by an online troll.

Staring deadpan into the camera, the 44-year-old basketball legend replied: 'That your mother loves very dearly.'

Meanwhile 56-year-old Johnson found it rather amusing when he heard that someone thinks he 'looks like a bald, black, John Travolta.'

Russell Westbrook was told that he looks 'like Jar Jar Binks', and admitted that he doesn't 'know who that is', but said he would take the troll's word for it.

And Dikembe Mutombo couldn't help but burst out laughing when he read out his Mean Tweet, although he did call the Twitter user a 'f***er'.

'I just had a fart that sounded exactly like Dikembe Mutombo speaking in his native tongue,' the tweet read.

One person had tweeted: 'Pretty sure Reggie Miller's ears provide WiFi,' and the 50-year-old playfully tapped the phone and then exclaimed: 'Oh my God, they do!'

Plenty of the NBA stars were exposed to Mean Tweets from people who were insulting their appearances.

Blake Griffin's tweet read: 'Does anyone know what Blake Griffin is? Did Morgan Freeman and carrot top impregnate an amazon or what happened..'

And Klay Thompson jokingly threw a withering look at the camera after being told that one day he 'is gonna leave the house without remembering to attach his goatee that he bought from Party City and it’ll be awkward.'

Jalen Rose kicked off the two minute clip with his tweet, which claimed: 'I still have no idea how Jalen Rose has a job? He looks like he sells bootleg DVDs at the barbershop.'

Meanwhile Andre Iguodala was teased about his side-eye - and had the perfect response.

'Andre Iguodala has the worst body language of anyone in the NBA,' he read out. 'If he got a dollar for every dirty look he made he’d have another 80 mil.'

Without saying anything else, the 32-year-old Golden State Warriors shot a dirty look at the camera.

Some of the tweets were more silly than cruel, and Doc Rivers certainly saw the funny side when he read out his tweet, which said: 'Doc Rivers voice is ashy as hell! Put some lotion on those vocal chords bro.'

But LA Clippers star Deandre Jordan's was just plain mean - and full of profanity.

'F*** you Deandre Jordan you can suck a million c**ks per second and f*** yourself until you die you piece of buttf***ing s**thead,' it read.

Thursday night marked game one of the NBA finals, which saw the Warriors beat out LeBron James' team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, with a score of 89-104.
