'I'm very happy. It's a great relief and I'm looking to the future with a happy smile. Everything is hunky dory and fantastic,' she told the Sunday Mirror of their reconciliation.

Recalling the moment his sister contacted him, Gerry, 62, said that he had never heard the singer so distressed and was adamant that they healed their relationship.

Susan, who is now worth an estimated £22 million, had a major fallout with her brother in December 2013, when other members of their family claimed that Gerry had persuaded the Scottish songbird to give him £50,000 by threatening to commit suicide.

The allegations caused a serious rift within the family and Gerry was left outraged when Susan refused to cut ties with those who started the rumours.

But after receiving the voicemail from Susan, Gerry put in an urgent call to her aides and was called back by the I Dreamed A Dream singer the following day.

'I didn't try to hug her because I knew it wouldn't help. I just made her a cup of tea and tried to calm her down. Within five minutes, it was like we'd never been apart. It has been great to pick up the pieces,' he confessed.

The siblings have now got their relationship completely back on track and speak everyday - with Susan regularly visiting her brother and his wife Lesley, 59, at their East Lothian home for dinner.

Although the topping on the cake would no doubt have been Susan's ability to finally meet with her brother's seven-month-old grandson, Alfie.

'It was lovely. Now Susan feels she is really back among us all. She couldn't stop picking him up. She loves children and she's already got a real soft spot for Alfie. She thinks he's absolutely gorgeous,' he gushed.

Susan is one of nine children and is thought to have been particularly close to Gerry when they grew up in their council house in Blackburn, West Lothian.

The 55-year-old singer revealed previously that her booming music career, that flourished after she signed a multi-million pound deal with Simon Cowell's SyCo label after claiming the hearts of the nation on Britain's Got Talent in 2009, ended up dividing her family.

Susan, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, confessed that the drama unfolded when she employed several of her relatives and gave generous amounts of money to others.
