Speaking to People, Simon, said: 'He's the world's cutest little boy. I've got to tell you, he's going to be my little right-hand man - anything he likes I like.

'He's brilliant, he comes down to the auditions and really enjoys the acts. He's very good to watch funnily enough, because I can see when he's bored and when he's up dancing.

'He's a good critic already. He's unpaid, but he's helping me!'

The doting dad also revealed that Eric is so obsessed with the show that he believes that Simon's full-time job centres around pushing buzzers.

Simon is currently in America, filming the US version of Britain's Got Talent and is joining fellow judges Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel on the show's panel.

And despite being the new boy, Simon said that the group got along famously.

However, it seemed as though, Simon's hectic schedule may have gotten the better of him earlier this week as he was forced to pull out of his own charity ball on Wednesday, due to an illness.

In his absence, his girlfriend, Lauren Silverman, 38, made a solo appearance at the Together For Short Lives Midsummer Ball.

Simon, who was named as a patron for the charity in 2009, was too sick to attend, with a spokesperson confirming that he was bed-ridden with the flu.

A source close to the star told The Mirror: 'He wouldn't miss this event unless he was feeling really ill, the charity means a great deal to him.'

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Simon Cowell for further comment.

Since becoming a patron, Simon has visited numerous children’s hospices including; Shooting Star CHASE, Richard House Children’s Hospice, Chestnut Tree House and Haven House and also hosted children at The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent studios.

Together For Short Lives describe Simon as a key supporter of their annual fundraising and awareness week, Children’s Hospice Week.

He also secured The X Factor charity single for them in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 which raised significant funds for seriously ill children and their families.
