Coldplay frontman Chris Martin puts on a lively performance as he takes the stage in Manchester in tie-dye style shirt and funky trainers

He recently admitted that his split with Gwyneth Paltrow in 2014 caused him a 'year of depression'.

But Chris Martin happened to be in a much more jovial mood as he took to the stage at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium for a gig on Saturday.

The 39-year-old Coldplay frontman was also dressed appropriately a blue top with tie-dye patches and funky trainers which helped him put on a lively performance.

The jeans also featured multi-coloured bead detailing on the side which matched the patchwork on his shoulders.

His hi-top trainers proved to be the most eye-catching element of his ensemble and featured a predominantly turquoise colour with orange, purple and red detailing.

The performer started off singing lively as he smiled out in to the audience, before going on to swing a guitar around his body.

Like a true musician, he went on to play the guitar as he sang in to a mic and seemed to thrive off the electric atmosphere.

At one point, his homely pride overtook him and he unveiled the British flag which he waved to the audience.

Chris has just returned from the European leg of his tour- where he most recently performed in Barcelona.

While there were crowds of thousands, the main attendee was his 12-year-daughter Apple, who he shares with ex wife Gwyneth.

Earlier in the night, during Chris' turn on stage, Gwyneth took to Instagram to share a sweet snap of Chris and Apple during Coldplay's latest live show.

Showing the youngster watching her father from the sidelines, he could be seen blowing her a kiss as he sings into the microphone.

She captioned the image with: 'Sometimes your dad really needs you to visit him at work'.

Unsurprisingly, the image was 'liked' more than 50,000 times and received plenty of affirmative comments.

The social media moment comes just weeks after Chris conceded that his split from Gwyneth had caused him a 'year of depression'.

'I still wake up down a lot of days. But now I feel like I've been given the tools to turn it around,' he said.

In his first proper interview, Chris spoke frankly about his 'very wonderful separation-divorce' - bizarrely dubbed 'conscious uncoupling' at the time by Hollywood star Gwyneth's lifestyle website, Goop.

The singer told the Sunday Times the divorce is a 'weird one', and that he still goes on holiday with his actress ex-wife who is the mother of Apple and his other child Moses.

Speaking from Santa Monica, California, he said he had become better at dealing with difficult times.

'You can come at it very aggressively and blame and blame. Or you can put yourself in the garage, so to speak. Take yourself apart and clean off the bits. Reassemble,' he said.
