Victorian Premier David Andrews called the plan a ‘Hollywood coup’ and claimed it would pour $20 million into the local economy and create 250 jobs.
The show explores a world in shock when 140 million people inexplicably vanish in a ‘rapture-like event’, and is the third-highest rating U.S. cable TV show with six million an episode.
Melbourne will not double as an American city as the show’s plot will move to Australia after Theroux’s character’s father left for Perth in season 2.
