GIRL ABOUT TOWN: Philip shrugs off health scare with a day at the races

The Duke of Edinburgh defied recent health scares yesterday by turning out for a day at the races.

The 95-year-old Duke was back to his chuckling best for the Derby as he stepped out at Epsom with the Queen.

Last week he reluctantly pulled out of the Battle of Jutland commemorations in Orkney ‘on doctor’s advice’ – though no reason was given.

It was a real family affair, with Prince Andrew and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent also in the enclosure.

Other visitors turning heads included Poldark actress Eleanor Tomlinson, whose sheer dress and gravity-defying hat brought some serious glamour to the crowd.

Meanwhile, the Duke’s grandson, Peter Philips, has scoffed at fears about his health – saying the only thing wrong with him is that he thinks he’s 40 years younger.

‘He’s nearly 95 but his mind still wants to do what he did when he was 55,’ said Peter, 38, who expects the Duke to attend the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations on The Mall next weekend.

‘He still drives four-in-hand ponies every day. He is determined to plough on and keep things as normal as possible.’
