London neighbours reveal ‘nightmare’ 10-year battle over 4-storey Kensington basement

London's longest running mega basement dispute could last a decade in a row over a £28million pound Kensington property formerly owned by a fraudster. The Grade II listed townhouse was snapped up by conman Achilleas Kallakis (inset top right), who was later convicted and jailed for seven years. He submitted a planning application in 2005 and had begun digging a mega basement which was designed to hold a swimming pool, spa, cinema and car lift (right), but it was abandoned when workers downed tools in 2008. After Kallakis was jailed, receivers seized the early Victorian property (inset left) and sold it in 2011 to an unnamed owner, who is said to be a Dubai-based businessman. While a new planning application was approved by Kensington and Chelsea Council in 2013, the work is yet to continue. One neighbour, who didn't wish to be named, said: 'It's been a plague on our lives for eight years. We've had problems with subsidence from the dig. We don't overlook a garden in a lovely London neighbourhood but a vast chasm into a building site (main).'

Trevor Joyce, 37 (bottom left), launched a 20-inch bladed knife (top) at antiques expert Justin Skrebowski (bottom right) as the 61-year-old shopped for balloons in a Poundland store in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Joyce, who had been smoking the so-called legal high 'spice', repeatedly shouted 'this is what you get' as he plunged the blade he had selected from a display into his victim's buttock. As his victim lay dying from a single stab wound in the celebration isle, Joyce went on a terrifying rampage through the town. He has now admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and will be sentenced at the Old Bailey.

Muhammad Ali's $80m fortune was depleted, Running with the Champ memoir claims

Close friend Tim Shanahan (above with Ali) claims the overly generous boxing legend 'would empty his wallet  - even for a stranger' in his memoir Running with the Champ and believes it has seriously impacted his fortune. Ali, who died on Friday, felt guilty about his affairs and having two children out of wedlock so he 'never said no' when relatives asked him for cash. He was persuaded to open Ali's Trolley chicken restaurant in Chicago where he lived, but it closed after 18 months. Shanahan claims members of his inner circle began 'actively ripping him off.' He claims Ali's cronies spent $2.5 million that should have gone to pay his taxes and looted $21 million from a sports company set up in his name. The author was 'disgusted' to see the boxer's so-called friends submitting bogus receipts for meals, clothes and drinks. Ali once told Shanahan,  'I never had any trouble with my white brothers around me. It's always my black brothers who try and screw me.'

Thousands around Louisville came out to the Muhammad Ali Center over the weekend to pay their respects to the late boxer and humanitarian -- even insects.

At the museum Sunday, officials needed to call a beekeeper after a swarm of bees congregated in a tree directly across from a mural with the famous Muhammad Ali quote, "Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee." Ali, who died late Friday in Arizona, used the quote to describe his boxing style.

Kelly Recker, of Fort Jennings, Ohio, said her and husband, Tony, arrived at the Muhammad Ali Center around 9:30 a.m. Sunday. She went to take a picture of the mural, which is across the walkway from the entrance to the museum and noticed the commotion going on behind it.

"My husband said, 'Oh my God, look at those bees!'" Recker said. "The limbs were just covered with them."
