'Happy weekend!' Katie Holmes shares a make-up free selfie... but uses a black and white filter to soften the impact

As a professional actress, Katie Holmes is no stranger to the skills of the professional make-up artist.

But when she has a rare day off, the 37-year-old enjoys the chance to let her skin rest.

Sharing a make-up free selfie on Saturday, Katie wrote to fans 'Happy weekend!'

Her bare skin glowed in the snap, although she softened the impact by using a black and white filter.

The busy star has every reason to treasure the chance of a day off.

She is currently filming miniseries The Kennedys: After Camelot, in which she will reprise her role as Jackie O.

The mother-of-one also intends to direct an episode, following her directorial debut in All We Had.

The film's star Judy Greer recently complimented Katie on her skills as a director.

The 40-year-old star joked she was incredibly 'bossy' with the cast and crew.

She told People magazine: 'She's amazing. She wasn't bossy, no ... I mean, she's bossy, don't get me wrong, but she was never bossy with me.

'I liked working for her a lot. It's fun to get immediate feedback from your friends about your performance. It's great!

'It's always fun to have someone come and see what you're doing from a different view. She's a great director. I think she's gonna be fine.'

Meanwhile, Katie previously admitted she found it 'challenging but rewarding"'stepping behind the camera for the first time.

She said: 'I was actually on both sides [of the camera]. It was an undertaking, but the movie was produced by Jane Rosenthal and you couldn't ask for a better producer, so I felt very taken care of.

'It was very challenging! But very, very rewarding. Hopefully you just get better every time you do it. That's what I'm hoping for.'
