Feeling VERY fruity: Thousands throw tonnes of tomatoes at each other in the annual Tomatina Festival
An estimated 20,000 people descended on the town of Sutamarchan, in the state of Boyaca, to take part in this, the 10th tomato-throwing festival. Every spring locals are joined by tourists from far and wide to throw spoiled fruit at one another in a region that is known to have the highest amount of tomato production in all of Latin America.
Why you should ALWAYS bolt your hotel door: Shocking footage shows guests unlocking three rooms with the same key card after a stranger surprised them in the middle of the night
Calling it a 'complete hotel key fail', two travellers exposed a major security flaw when they used their card to unlock multiple rooms at the $38-a-night Rodeway Inn on Route 66 in Gallup, New Mexico. Footage shows one of the men holding the key for the camera (top left) and using it to open their door (bottom left) before unlocking two adjacent rooms at the budget hotel. Choice Hotels, which owns the Rodeway Inn chain, blamed it on a 'malfunction' in the hotel's key card system and said the flaw has been addressed.
My high-seas hell: A seafarer who dreamed about being swept off her feet by Captain Jack discovers that real pirates are a far cry from her fantasy when they raid her yacht
Six years ago, Meraid Griffin left her home, family and job for a life of adventure on the high seas. After travelling to the Arctic, she met Dan, the skipper of the yacht, She of Feock and the pair decided to sail to Africa together (main). In Morocco, their yacht was targeted and burgled by pirates but the experience was nothing like Meraid's Jonny Depp fantasy. Pictured inset are CSI Maroc who investigated the incident.
The hauntingly beautiful abandoned buildings where time stands still: Eerie snaps show decaying kitchens, derelict churches and stately manors that are being reclaimed by nature
Romain Veillon, 32, from Paris, has spent years travelling across Europe and to countries in Africa and South America to photograph abandoned buildings for his new book, Ask the Dust. Some of his best work includes these photos of a decaying kitchen at a house in Belgium (left), a forgotten piano at a rundown property in Poland (top right), and a staircase in a crumbling building in Portugal (bottom right). The urban explorer is highly secretive, choosing not to reveal the exact locations because he fears they would be 'trashed' by vandals.

The 55-year-old's photos show sights such as Iran's shrinking Lake Urmia (left), the breathtaking K2 mountain range in Asia (top right) and Dubai's fascinating man-made Palm islands and skyscrapers (bottom right) in a light impossible for the human eye to detect.

My VERY awkward beach holiday! The hilarious (and embarrassing) snaps of naked photobombers and naughty siblings that were way too good to be kept private
In the past they would have been tucked away in a private album, but these amusing or cringeworthy snaps of beach holidays have been enshrined on the US-based website Awkward Family Photos. One happy family was photobombed by a sunbather in a lewd position (top left), while a young boy seemed all too pleased when his sister broke down in tears while she was buried in sand (right). In another snap (bottom left), everyone but one family member was ready for the beach - she chose to wear Goth attire while everyone else opted for swimsuits.
Now THIS is getting away from it all: The luxury Kenyan safari lodge in a wilderness three times the size of Manhattan that 14 guests have all to themselves
MailOnline Travel's Ted Thornhill finds himself in a zen-like state of relaxation at the incredible The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille in Kenya's dramatic Laikipia Plateau. It's a luxury oasis, complete with butlers, an infinity pool (bottom right) and Austin Powers styling (top left), that nestles 6,000ft up in a semi-arid landscape that elephants, zebras and leopards call home.
Long before the days of superjumbo jets and budget flights: Vintage photos reveal the golden age of air travel
The golden age of air travel lives on in these vintage photos and adverts which have resurfaced as Aer Lingus, Ireland's flag carrier, celebrates the 80th anniversary of its first flight. Instead of pyjamas, passengers wore their best clothes on transatlantic flights (main photo) to destinations such as New York in the 1950s. The inset image shows one of the travel posters used to sell the idea of international flight to passengers.

No one on board the 965ft Celebrity Infinity was injured when it crashed into the pier in Ketchikan, which faces the Inside Passage, but the ship was forced to stay overnight while it was repaired. Footage shows the ship arriving in high winds when it suddenly slams into the dock and scrapes along a barrier. Ketchikan officials said the dock suffered up to $3 million in damage and will be out of service for up to two months.

Jonathan Quinonez, from Brussels, is visiting glamorous beaches and landmarks, and documenting his adventures with Instagram snaps that show him holding a sign reading 'Mom I'm Fine'. He's not alone in many of the shots, which show him squeezed between a group of bikini-clad women on a beach in Cancun, Mexico, scuba diving in the Caribbean Sea and being held upside down by men dressed as soldiers in Colombia. The 27-year-old came up with the idea after he quit his job and sold his car in order to travel the world.
Forget the Maldives: The amazing floating village on stilts in HUNGARY (apart from the power plant, it's paradise!)
This is Hungary's answer to the paradise islands in the Indian Ocean - a village on stilts northwest of the capital, Budapest, near Bokod, that's known as the 'floating village'. Rows of vintage cabins, complete with cozy porches, have been built on stilted platforms in Lake Bodoki and are connected to the land and each other by a series of boardwalks.

Now you really CAN walk on water! Pedalboards use stepping power to move across the sea
A US kayak company has come up with an ingenious creation that lets users feel like they are walking on water as they propel themselves forwards, using the power of stepping. Not only do you get a great cardio vascular workout, but you can explore lakes and rivers at up to 7mph. The new craze has been developed by Hobie Eclipse , who want to revolutionise stand-up boards and fitness from gyms into the water.
That's one way to earn a crust! Meet the man who quit the rat race to travel the world selling sandwiches from his van
Back in 2012, adventurous Franco Paltrinieri gave up his marketing career and purchased an old Volkswagen van with a plan to travel from his home in Argentina to Alaska. A year ago he started selling 'lomitos' steak sandwiches from his van, which he cooks with traditional local liquor from the countries he visits along the way. So far he has travelled to eight countries.
The city of organised chaos: Vibrant images show the beauty and pandemonium of life in Hanoi
Amid the organised chaos of Hanoi, tiny motorbikes whizz through the narrow alleys (centre), precariously carrying furniture, fruit (top left) or even heavy tanks (bottom right), as these fascinating images show. Photographer Mate Valtr travelled to the Vietnamese capital in February this year to explore and document the bustling city. Dubbed the 'Paris of the East', the town is famous for its artisans and merchants. Although daily life in Hanoi is incredibly varied, much of it takes place outside on the streets, and it common to see people eating (top right) and getting their hair done (bottom left) outside.
Holidaymaker flies to Turkey from Scotland using her HUSBAND'S passport... that expired five years ago
Marion Lamond (main and inset), 53, mistakenly picked up husband Derek's passport (main) but managed to pass through two airport security checkpoints before anyone noticed the error. But it was only on arrival at Dalaman airport in Turkey that she realised she had taken her husband's documents - which had expired five years ago. As she landed in Turkey, she was taken aside and separated from her friend for interrogation. She is pictured inset with her husband.

The bone collector: Inside the bizarre 'Horn House' - where 15,000 antlers collected over 60 years cover the walls and ceilings
James Phillips, or Antler Man as he is known in his Montana hometown, offers curious enthusiasts the chance to gaze upon his eerily beautiful collection that he began when he was a boy. Rows upon rows of bones have been lovingly stacked on the walls or carefully dangled from the ceiling in a 30 by 64ft building that he calls the Horn House.
Dramatic moment Ryanair plane is forced to abort landing AFTER the wheels had touched down in fierce crosswinds at Liverpool Airport
The Boeing 737 was arriving at Liverpool John Lennon Airport from Knock in Ireland on Tuesday around midday when the pilots took the decision to perform a go around. Despite the aborted landing, the Ryanair flight still landed two minutes ahead of schedule in Liverpool. The filmmaker also captured this. The footage shows the Ryanair plane shifting slightly from side to side on approach before making a safe, if not bumpy, landing.
Inside the hidden bedrooms where cabin crew sleep: Flight attendants relax on flat beds stowed away in plane ceilings (though some admit it's like sleeping in a coffin)
Incredible images of US company Boeing's 777 and 787 planes reveal that they feature a secret staircase (left) leading to a windowless bedroom area known as Crew Rest Departments (CRCs) (main) designed for flight attendants and pilots to unwind in during long-haul journeys. The size and position of these spaces varies depending on each aircraft model, but they are typically nestled away behind the cockpit area, located above first class (top right). On Boeing 777 planes there can also be a separate area for pilots, with two beds, two business-class seats and, in some airlines, a bathroom area with a sink or lavatory.
Sleepy Hollow, Shangri La and Juliet's balcony: The fake attractions that tourists believe are REAL
If authentic travel is what you're looking for, you should definitely avoid these sites - not only are they overcrowded with holidaymakers, the legends that surround them are entirely different from the reality. They include well known destinations and attractions like Juliet's balcony in Verona (left), Shangri La in China (top right) and Sleepy Hollow in New York (bottom right). Some were created to cash in on hit films while others were recreated to chase after historic inaccuracies. But they all have one thing in common - they've been devised to attract unwitting travellers.
