Tomatina Festival sees thousands throw tonnes of tomatoes at each other in Colombia

An estimated 20,000 people descended on the town of Sutamarchan, in the state of Boyaca, to take part in this, the 10th tomato-throwing festival. Every spring locals are joined by tourists from far and wide to throw spoiled fruit at one another in a region that is known to have the highest amount of tomato production in all of Latin America.

Calling it a 'complete hotel key fail', two travellers exposed a major security flaw when they used their card to unlock multiple rooms at the $38-a-night Rodeway Inn on Route 66 in Gallup, New Mexico. Footage shows one of the men holding the key for the camera (top left) and using it to open their door (bottom left) before unlocking two adjacent rooms at the budget hotel. Choice Hotels, which owns the Rodeway Inn chain, blamed it on a 'malfunction' in the hotel's key card system and said the flaw has been addressed.

United Airlines' new Polaris business class cabin will be available on long-haul flights between the US and destinations such as London and Tokyo starting later this year. TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards reveals best tourist landmarks in Europe

Through millions of online reviews and ratings, TripAdvisor has compiled a list of their top 10 tourist attractions in Europe. Featured as some of holidaymakers' favourite highlights across the continent are the Acropolis in Greece (top left), Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower in France (inset and top right), St Peter's Basilica at Vatican City (bottom right) and the Alhambra in Spain (bottom left).

Colin Savage (pictured), who travelled on a long haul flight with Air Canada, claims he almost died after getting DVT as a result of a cramped 10-hour journey from Chile to Canada.

The list was part of a new law introduced by China's state tourism department, which covered both tourists and those working in the travel industry. Bans can last up to five years.

Celebrity Cruises Infinity ship crashes into dock in Ketchikan, Alaska

No one on board the 965ft Celebrity Infinity was injured when it crashed into the pier in Ketchikan, which faces the Inside Passage, but the ship was forced to stay overnight while it was repaired. Footage shows the ship arriving in high winds when it suddenly slams into the dock and scrapes along a barrier. Ketchikan officials said the dock suffered up to $3 million in damage and will be out of service for up to two months.

Thomasz Furmanek, from Bergen, Norway, used a GoPro and a small compact camera attached to the front of his trusty kayak to capture the beautiful pictures.

Jonathan Quinonez, from Brussels, is visiting glamorous beaches and landmarks, and documenting his adventures with Instagram snaps that show him holding a sign reading 'Mom I'm Fine'. He's not alone in many of the shots, which show him squeezed between a group of bikini-clad women on a beach in Cancun, Mexico, scuba diving in the Caribbean Sea and being held upside down by men dressed as soldiers in Colombia. The 27-year-old came up with the idea after he quit his job and sold his car in order to travel the world.

The study also found that the thought of getting behind the wheel abroad is worrying for 71 per cent of Brits and one in 20 drive more dangerously abroad because they get nervous.

Known for its miles of golden sandy beaches, Cornwall was named by 31 per cent of Brits in a recent survey as the best place for a staycation.

HUNGARY's amazing floating village on stilts outshine the Maldives

This is Hungary's answer to the paradise islands in the Indian Ocean - a village on stilts northwest of the capital, Budapest, near Bokod, that's known as the 'floating village'. Rows of vintage cabins, complete with cozy porches, have been built on stilted platforms in Lake Bodoki and are connected to the land and each other by a series of boardwalks.

A US kayak company has come up with an ingenious creation that lets users feel like they are walking on water as they propel themselves forwards, using the power of stepping. The new craze has been developed by Hobie Eclipse , who want to revolutionise stand-up boards and fitness from gyms into the water.

The northern reaches of North America are getting greener, according to a NASA study that provides the most detailed look yet at plant life across Alaska and Canada. In a changing climate, almost a third of the land cover ? much of it Arctic tundra ? is looking more like landscapes found in warmer ecosystems.

With 87,000 images taken from Landsat satellites, converted into data that reflects the amount of healthy vegetation on the ground, the researchers found that western Alaska, Quebec and other regions became greener between 1984 and 2012. The new Landsat study further supports previous work that has shown changing vegetation in Arctic and boreal North America.

Landsat is a joint NASA/U.S. Geological Survey program that provides the longest continuous space-based record of Earth?s land vegetation in existence.

Researchers analysed 87,000 images taken between 1984 and 2012 by Landsat satellites in the most detailed look yet at plant life across Alaska and Canada.

That's one way to earn a crust! Meet the man who quit the rat race to travel the world

Back in 2012, adventurous Franco Paltrinieri gave up his marketing career and purchased an old Volkswagen van with a plan to travel from his home in Argentina to Alaska. A year ago he started selling 'lomitos' steak sandwiches from his van, which he cooks with traditional local liquor from the countries he visits along the way. So far he has travelled to eight countries.

Marion Lamond (main and inset), 53, mistakenly picked up husband Derek's passport (main) but managed to pass through two airport security checkpoints before anyone noticed the error. But it was only on arrival at Dalaman airport in Turkey that she realised she had taken her husband's documents - which had expired five years ago. As she landed in Turkey, she was taken aside and separated from her friend for interrogation. She is pictured inset with her husband.

When he was caught allegedly taking inappropriate pictures of her he was ordered off the Embraer E195 aircraft at Dublin Airport before it flew to Cardiff.

Ryanair plane forced to abort landing due to fierce crosswinds at Liverpool Airport

The Boeing 737 was arriving at Liverpool John Lennon Airport from Knock in Ireland on Tuesday around midday when the pilots took the decision to perform a go around. Despite the aborted landing, the Ryanair flight still landed two minutes ahead of schedule in Liverpool. The filmmaker also captured this. The footage shows the Ryanair plane shifting slightly from side to side on approach before making a safe, if not bumpy, landing.

A stowaway identified as 16-year-old Xu from Sichuan, China, hid in the cargo-hold of an Emirates flight for nine hours from Shanghai to Dubai. He was apprehended once he landed in Dubai.

The 65ft-tall beech tree appears to feature proportional legs, arms, a chest and even a head.
