She officially parted with her Hollywood star husband Russell Crowe four years ago and the pair maintain an incredibly close friendship for the sake of their two boys.

But as time has lapsed between former singer Danielle Spencer, 47, and ex Gladiator star Russell Crowe, 52, their lives have inevitably taken different paths.

For Danielle is said to have fallen for Adam Long who, as a cartoonist and crime writer, fits the bill of 'typical arty type she goes for,' a source told Daily Mail Australia.

A pal revealed: 'He's typically her, very arty, and she loves that type.

'She's really happy, it's still quite early days, but she's content. And Russell is apparently pretty cool with it. He's accepted they're not going to get back together.'

The Forgive Me singer reportedly introduced Ad to her family at a restaurant in Sydney's Double Bay on Friday.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Danielle's father Don Spencer, mother Julie and her husband Gerard Whittaker and her 12-year-old son Charles attended the supper.

Friends says Ad is perfect for her since he, too, had a grown up child and understands Danielle's priority are the boys she shares with Russell, Charles and Tennyson, nine.

The Telegraph reports: 'It is very early days. He is a really lovely guy. They have struck up a great friendship.'

Dapper Ad is the author of fiction book Too Greedy To Live, a thriller about three murdered bankers on a boat whose cases are investigated by detective Kate Carter.

The plot tells how super-rich financiers are mysteriously killed off in identical fashion in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis.

'This is a story for those people disillusioned by growing inequality,' publicity around the novel states.

Indeed, Ad was the cartoonist who created the One.Tel cartoon mascot called The Dude for the Australian phone and internet company at the height of the dot.com boom before the bubble burst in the 90s.

A website dedicated to the book states: 'Ad Long knows a bit about corporate scandal.

'As a young cartoonist, he created the One.Tel mascot for an Australian phone and internet company... before it collapsed spectacularly and fortunes were lost.'

Last month songstress Danielle spoke to Daily Mail Australia at the InStyle and Audi Women Of Style Awards gala at Sydney's Star casino and hinted that she may not be single for long.

She said: 'I think the best attitude in life is to be open to things.'
