It’s not a Scandal! Hit show’s hunky president Grant (Tony Goldwyn) says Hillary’s secret email server was just a mistake – not an indictable offense

  • Goldwyn said, 'My impression is that they did it for expediency. So far, there doesn't seem to be anything....an indictable offense there'

Hillary Clinton made a 'stupid mistake' when she set up a private server for her emails in her home, actor Tony Goldwyn says, but the Scandal star doesn't think she did anything all that scandalous - or illegal.

'I think it was a stupid mistake, which Secretary Clinton and her staff have admitted,' he told DailyMail.com on Monday during an exclusive interview.

Goldwyn said, 'My impression is that they did it for expediency. So far, there doesn't seem to be anything....an indictable offense there.'

He said the controversy has been 'overblown compared to what's come out of Donald Trump's mouth.'

President Fitzgerald Grant on the White House drama that airs on ABC, Goldwyn, a longtime supporter of progressive causes, has been campaigning for the former secretary of state throughout the primary season.

He made a stop today at one of her offices in Los Angeles before his first rally of the day, where he also spoke on her behalf ahead of tomorrow's election in California.

Goldwyn spoke passionately to 23 volunteers in the LA campaign office about Clinton's experience and tenacity.

He told DailyMail.com that Trump's mystery tax returns and contradictory statements are more consequential when it comes to transparency and honesty than her secret server.

If the FBI discovers something in it's investigation of Clinton's emails, then 'yes, that would a problem.'

'But the fact is...if it was simply a blunder, which many people have made before,' he said, referring to other secretaries of state's use of personal email to conduct government business, 'yes, she should be held accountable for that.'

The actor said her email set-up 'is not even remotely something that in my mind would disqualify somebody from leadership.'

'With Hillary Clinton, for 25 years she's been in public office. People have been going after anything they possibly can, from Whitewater to Benghazi.'

The House of Representatives' review of the Benghazi terrorist attack has gone on an unreasonable amount of time, Goldwyn said. The committee's investigation has gone on longer than the one into Watergate, he pointed out, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Clinton gave 11 hours of testimony in October and other investigative committees determined she committed no wrong doing, and yet the Republican-run House's special task force has not produced a report of its findings.

'That's an example to me of the way that we're approaching it. There's a double standard, I think, where Secretary Clinton's concerned.'

Goldwyn was in high spirits on Monday, taking pictures and stopping to talk with every volunteer at the office after he delivered opening remarks before leaving.

'I think we're poised do great,' he said of tomorrow's results.

He warned Clinton supporters not to get complacent simply because she's on the verge of securing the Democratic nomination.

'It's not enough to say, "Oh I'm sure she's gonna win." You gotta get out,' he said.
