She's a two-time Oscar winner, hitting the big-time as an actress and film producer.

And Jessica Chastain proved she is also worthy of a place among the style elite as she attended the CFDA Fashion Awards at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Monday evening.

The 39-year-old screen star turned up the glamour in an elegant strapless ballgown with striking silver detailing as she mingled with the great and good of the sartorial world.

The black velvet dress was embroidered with metallic leaf appliques and featured an on-trend mullet hemline.

Jessica completed the ensemble with a pair of elegant strappy heels, keeping her accessories simple with a sparkly bracelet. 

Showing off her flawless porcelain skin, the star positively glowed, accentuating her eyes with bold liner and keeping her brows and lips nude.

The Martian actress wore her trademark red hair slicked back in a side-parting, showing off her stunning bone structure. 

Despite the fact she is known for her fiery locks, she admits she thought about changing her look in the past.

She said: 'There were a couple of times when I thought, "Maybe I should dye my hair blonde?"

'Being a redhead and not having very conventionally modern looks, it was confusing for people and they didn't know exactly where to put me.'

Some of the many stars in attendance on the night included Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Naomi Campbell, with Beyonce winning the Fashion Icon Award.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America awards is an annual event recognising the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry.

Awards are given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear, and accessories as well as extraordinary accomplishments in journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement.
