'Mike and I are so excited,' she said. 'We are expecting a baby in December.' She also revealed later in the program that as a result of her pregnancy she would not be travelling to Rio de Janeiro to cover the Summer Olympics out of fears over the Zika virus. 'I'm not going to be able to go to Rio, so you'll have to go to beach volleyball without me,' Savannah told her fellow Today hosts.

Bretagne, a 16-year-old golden retriever who was the last surviving search dog helping to find survivors after the twin towers came crashing down on September 11, has died in Texas. With a host of honors to her name and countless searches behind her, Bretagne was honored - as any human would be - one final time before her death. A row of firefighters stood at attention as Bretagne walked with her owner, Denise Corliss, into the Fairfield Animal Hospital in Cypress, Texas. Bretagne began suffering from kidney failure and when she stopped eating, Corliss knew it was time to say goodbye. The dog, who was also a volunteer firefighter, had also aided in searches during Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ivan and Hurricane Rita.

Hillary Clinton was declared the winner of the Democratic nomination this on Monday as she campaigned in Los Angeles. The Associated Press, which runs the premiere delegate-tracking service, first made the call and was quickly followed by NBC News, CBS and CNN. Almost eight years from the day that she bowed out of a tight race against Barack Obama, Clinton made history with the announcements, becoming the first woman to top a major political party's ticket in the United States. AP determined tonight that Clinton had enough superdelegates in her corner to win the nomination at this summer's convention without the votes that will be cast in Tuesday's elections in six states and one final contest next week in the District of Columbia. 'According to the news we are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment,' Clinton said at a rally in Long Beach, California.

Angelika Graswald (left with Viafore and right) is accused of murdering her fiancé Vincent Viafore during a kayak trip to scenic Bannermann's Island on April 19 last year. Graswald said she was unable to save Viafore, 45, when he capsized without a life jacket. She was rescued from the water by another boater and treated for hypothermia. But prosecutors say she killed her husband-to-be by removing the drain plug from the kayak and pushing a floating paddle away from him as he struggled in the cold and choppy Hudson River. During the hearing on Monday, a senior investigator with the New York State Police revealed that Graswald had appeared 'happy go lucky' when he and two other officers arrived at Bannerman Island to retrace her steps on the day her fiancé disappeared.

The babysitter accused of abusing a one-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in Oregon after social media users demanded action to be taken by authorities and officials. Markell Hilaire (left), 27, is facing charges of criminal mistreatment and assault for an incident parents Joshua Marbury and Alicia Quinney claimed left their son, Jacob (right), with a bruise shaped like a hand print on his face. According to KPTV , Hilaire was arrested Friday after thousands of people shared the heartbreaking photos of Jacob across social media after his parents say authorities would not first arrest him over the alleged abuse.

A shop in Los Angeles owned by Kim Kardashian and her sisters has been targeted by a firebomber. A Molotov cocktail was thrown at the Dash boutique in West Hollywood but failed to cause much damage. Marc Cota-Robles, a reporter with LA-based ABC7 News, later tweeted: 'Suspect in custody.'

WARNING - GRAPHIC CONTENT: David Sweat and Richard Matt exploited Joyce Mitchell in the months leading up to their escape from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, according to a damning report. The revelations were uncovered in a widespread investigation into the escape of the two murderers. It concluded that the men should have been caught 400 times before their widely publicized prison break. Mitchell was flirtatious with other inmates in the prison's tailor shop where she was stationed. But she paid the most attention to Sweat and Matt, and even gave them cookies, cakes and at one point bought Sweat a Big Mac. Other prisoners also told investigators she would be 'bent over' their machines throughout the day and would let them get away with not doing any work. Over time, Mitchell's and Matt's relationship turned sexual. Micthell admitted to giving Matt oral sex and even made printouts of naked photos of her. Another inmate said Matt asked him to be a lookout during one of his sexual encounters with Mitchell during a work shift. According to the inmate, Matt said: 'I'm gonna get that . . . I'm gonna take her in the room, we already talked about it, she's saying I can, I gotta be quick.' When Matt emerged from being alone with Mitchell, he placed his fingers under the inmate's nose, saying: 'Here, smell this.'

The bull elephant calf became separated from his herd when he fell down a water well at the Sera Community Conservancy in northern Kenyan. The family were forced to move on without him but thankfully rangers were on hand to pull the elephant free and hatch a plan to see him reunited with his mother. They tied the calf to a tree near to where he became lost in the hope that his herd would return to look for him (top left). After a few hours the elephant spotted his family in the distance and the rangers untied him. The cute video shows the delighted calf running back to his mother (bottom left) who greets him by flapping her ears and wagging her tail (right).

James Halsell Jr. (pictured left and right), 59, of Huntsville, was arrested after a crash killed 11-year-old Niomi Deona James and 13-year-old Jayla Latrick Parler (both pictured inset) of Brent early Monday. Troopers said a Chrysler 300 driven by Halsell - who may have been under the influence - collided with a Ford Fiesta in which the girls were passengers. Both victims were ejected from the vehicle and died.

Mixed martial artist Kimbo Slice has died at the age of 42, multiple sources have confirmed. Slice, who was born in the Bahamas as Kevin Ferguson and rose to fame through street fighting videos on YouTube, was hospitalized in Florida on Monday for undisclosed reasons.His cause of death has not been released, although police said there was no foul play involved.

UPDATED The blast targeted a service shuttle bus carrying officers from Istanbul's anti-riot police as it was passing through the central Beyazit district killing seven officers and three civilians. Reports said the explosion took place close to the Vezneciler metro station, which is within walking distance of some of the city's main tourist sites including the famed Suleymaniye Mosque. Pictures showed the bomb had turned the police vehicle into mangled wreckage and that nearby shops had their front windows smashed out by the force of the blast with cars parked in the vicinity also damaged.

Yamato Tanooka, seven, was met with camera flashes and cheers from dozens of people when he appeared outside the hospital in the city of Hakodate on Hokkaido. Wearing a baseball cap and a gray jacket over a T-shirt, Yamato waved at the hospital crowd while holding a greeting card in the shape of an oversized baseball. The seven-year-old said he was excited to go back to school and play baseball, looking forward to taking part in an upcoming school sports day.

The Mayflower II returned to Plymouth, Massachusetts, this week. The replica of the famed ship that carried the Pilgrims to Massachusetts in 1620 returned to its home port on Plymouth Bay on Monday. The ship had been undergoing an extensive restoration in the run-up to Plymouth's 400th anniversary in 2020. That has meant spending the last few winters at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. The ship passed through the Cape Cod Canal before docking back home on the Plymouth waterfront.

A video has emerged showing an El Salvadorean immigrant armed with a knife charging at a police officer seconds before the cop shot him dead. Mario Mejia Martinez, 37, was gunned down in Everett, a town in Massachusetts not far from Boston, in April. The video shows Mr Martinez running towards the officer (pictured) and seconds later lying dead on the floor (inset).

A federal judge ruled Monday that the police chief of a small Cajun town violated the civil rights of a woman who says he tied her up with a belt and forced her into sex acts in his office while she was drunk and he was on duty. Earl Theriot (pictured above, and with wife bottom-right), 68, resigned as Sorrento police chief in 2014 after admitting lying to the FBI about his 'sexual encounter' with the woman, 44, in a plea deal. That criminal case saw him getting two years' probation. Now, in a civil lawsuit, U.S. District Judge Shelly Dick has ruled that the woman was legally incapable of consenting to sex with Theriot given how drunk she was at the time of their November 1, 2013, encounter.

Jasmine Collins, owner of Razor Chic of Atlanta, recently took to Facebook to post clip of a 23-year-old with a receding hairline and bald patches. The clip, which has been viewed more than 3.1 million times, sees the woman telling Jasmine that she just wants her hair to 'breathe'. Many of the women flood into Jasmine's salon are suffering from traction apopecia, or gradual hair loss caused by hair being pulled. Jasmine insists that she is not 'anti-weave', but she explained that clients cannot rely on them on a daily basis because the hair will suffer.

The footage was posted online by ESR, a firm based in British Colombia, Canada, who say the gentle laser light is capable of removing harmful and unsightly deposits without chemicals to restore everything from sculptures and bronze statues. The firm say it can even remove abrasives, water, dust and residues that would otherwise cause permanent damage to priceless historical architecture. In the video the laser is seen cutting through the contamination on the surface of a fire place and instantly restoring it without the need for scrubbing.

The rodents grappled one another in the street, sinking their teeth into their opponent's face. As they tumbled over on the tarmac, two sparrows interrupted their stand-off in Glastonbury, Connecticut.

Sarah Robertson (top left) believes that her husband's sperm was mistakenly given away to another patient after she had the specimens frozen in LA before his death in June 2004. Aaron Robertson Z(together-main) fell into a coma after having a stroke, however his wife had his sperm extracted and frozen. In April 2014 she was informed by the clinic that had been storing the specimens that the vials had been lost over the years. 'I can't live knowing that (the clinic) may have given it to someone else,' she told KTLA. She is now suing Dr. Peyman Saadat (bottom left) and the clinic for at least $750,000.

A fish has been photographed swimming within a jellyfish with a bewildered look on its face off the coast Australia. Tim Samuel was free diving in the waters off Byron Bay, near the Queensland-New South Wales border, when he noticed a jellyfish bobbing past with a fish trapped inside it. He posted images of the bizarre sight to Instagram which showed the small fish looking snug within the bell of the jelly fish.

A pregnant woman has contemplated replacing her doctor with social media, after users on Reddit saved her life. A video of the unidentified mum-to-be doing what was described as her funny 'belly button' trick was posted on the social media site by her amused husband. But it wasn't long before concerned viewers urged the woman - who happens to be a doctor herself - to get a second opinion, saying it looked like a hernia. And they were right.

He quit his plumbing apprenticeship, bought a motorcycle from the mainland and fled the island, which has a population of just 500 people. Since then he's travelled the world on his motorbike in a bid to discover and understand different cultures. George, who refuses to use guidebooks, drives aimlessly through countries, following tip-offs from locals about where to visit and then discovers places by himself.

Police have launched an investigation into a mother from China who live-streamed herself eating strange objects including live eels (inset), goldfish, worms (right) and even a lightbulb (left). They claim that some of the 45-year-old's videos are staged using props and they were taken by her 24-year-old son. The woman, who is known as 'Sister Feng eats everything', broadcast her shocking performance on a new video platform called Kuaishou, or 'quick hand'.

A large American black bear figured out how to open a car door giving this father and his family a nasty scare. The children cry out in disbelief while the mother appears unconcerned. Fortunately for viewers of the video the publisher modified the volume to lower the sounds of the screaming kids. The footage was uploaded online over the weekend and it is unclear exactly where the close encounter took place.
