Meryl Streep turns into The Donald as she dons fat suit and paints her face orange to play Trump at New York's annual Shakespeare in the Park gala

  • Meryl Streep dressed up as Donald Trump at the annual Shakespeare in the Park gala in New York City on Monday night
  • The Oscar-winning actress performed the song 'Brush Up Your Shakespeare' from Kiss me Kate with Christine Baranski
  • Streep and Baranski are not appearing in this season's play but did work with its director, Phyllida Lloyd, on Mamma Mia
  • The Taming of the Shrew is the first play that is being performed this season and features an all-female cast
  • The first voice heard in the production is that of a beauty pageant emcee who sounds remarkably like Trump

She's played the Queen, Margaret Thatcher and Emmeline Pankhurst.

But on Monday night Meryl Streep turned her talents to another political legend, transforming into presidential hopeful Donald Trump

The three-time Oscar winner and staunch Hillary Clinton supporter, was the spitting image of the Republican, as she donned a fat suit and painted her features orange for the 2016 Shakespeare in the Park Public Theater Gala at the Delacorte Theater in New York's Central Park.

Meryl, 66, looked unrecognizable in Trump's signature dark suit and red tie, layered over a padded suit.

To complete the effect the Hollywood veteran painted her face orange and donned a blonde wig to replicate The Donald's famous coif.

The actress performed a rendition of Cole Porter's 'Brush Up Your Shakespeare' alongside Tony-winner and good friend Christine Baranski for the annual event which pays tribute to William Shakespeare.

The duet from the musical 'Kiss Me Kate', which is based on The Bard's play The Taming of The Shrew, is traditionally sung by male gangsters and advises men how to woo ladies by reciting Shakespeare lines.

'You'll let me know, why all the women say no,' Meryl belted out on stage, while Christine responded with: 'Brush up your Shakespeare and the women you will wow'.

'Just declaim a few lines from Othello, and they'll think you're a hell of a fella.'

Taming of the Shrew is the first play that the Public Theater is showing this year during their annual Shakespeare in the Park series, with Phyllida Lloyd directing an all-female cast that includes Janet McTeer and Cash Jumbo.

Lloyd also directed Streep and Baranski in Mamma Mia.

There is one male in the play in the form of the announcer, who is the first voice heard when the production begins and sounds suspiciously like Mr. Trump.

The character is a beauty pageant emcee who announces the lineup of ladies at the top of the play and is the first voice again following intermission.

It is not clear whether or not it is Streep who provides that taped voice in the production.

Streep's performance on Monday night came as news filtered through on Monday night that Hillary Clinton was sailing into the last big round of primaries as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.

Meryl is a big supporter of Trump's rival to the White House, and the friendship goes both ways as Clinton recently revealed she wants the award winning actress to play her in a movie.

During a hot seat round of questioning on Live with Kelly and Michael, Clinton told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan that 'of course' it had to be Meryl.
