The taxman has started deducting money from monthly pensions or salaries to cover dues on what it thinks pensioners get each month from savings interest. In reality, savers are being taxed before the savings interest hits their bank account. This is because savings interest is usually paid only once a year, rather than monthly.

Travel cover that's useless if your bag's pinched on the beach: Cheap deals are being peddled online - but don't expect much help when things go wrong
Our tests show that three in five of the cheapest deals listed on comparison sites leave holidaymakers exposed to huge bills if they suffer the most common travel mishaps. Policies promoted as the 'best deals' typically contain stinging catches in the small print. Some pay out only a tiny amount if you suffer a serious injury abroad or if your bag is missing.

I got a Benjamin Britten 50p coin recently in my change: Is it really worth thousands of pounds?
A few days ago I received a Benjamin Britten 50p coin in my change. My dad told me to keep hold of it as they are rare and fetch quite a bit of money. I searched the coin on eBay and found some examples of the Benjamin Britten coin being listed for thousands of pounds. Have a hit a bit of good fortune, or is it a red herring?

MIDAS SHARE TIPS: A nice little earner! But used car dealer Motorpoint Group got there by being nothing like TV's Arthur Daley
Motorpoint Group is different. The largest independent used-car retailer in the UK, it floated on the Stock Exchange last month at 200p. The shares have had a strong start, hitting 231¾p by the end of last week, but there is plenty of potential for further gains over the next few years. More than 7million used cars were sold last year and, despite its leading position, Motorpoint accounted for just 52,000 of them.

Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley is accused of running a 'gulag workhouse' where a woman had to give birth in the warehouse and 'excessive chatting' can get you sacked under the 'six-strikes and you're out' rule
Union officials tell MPs that employees work under a 'culture of fear' under Mike Ashley (pictured left arriving at Parliament with his wife this morning and right, appearing before MPs at the Business Select Committee), where offences as trivial as 'excessive chatting' can get workers sacked. He faced protests outside Parliament over reports of poor working conditions at his firm - in particular the warehouse in Derbyshire where a woman had to give birth in a toilet in 2014 because she feared being given a 'strike' for missing work. Mr Ashley, also the Newcastle United owner, insisted he has nothing to hide and had been 'open and honest' at every stage of correspondence with MPs as they demanded to grill him over working conditions at his firm. The retail tycoon, who is also the owner of Newcastle United, announced on Friday he would not attend Parliament for the grilling. But Mr Ashley, who was facing a Parliamentary summons, said he had since decided that a 'lengthy legal battle would be of no benefit to either of us'.
Pound falls on Brexit polls but dollar softens as cautiously optimistic Janet Yellen indicates no rush to raise US rates
Sterling hit a three-week low against the dollar first thing this morning, falling as much as 0.9 per cent to $1.43, and was down 0.5 per cent against the euro at €1.269. The slump was caused by a YouGov poll showing that 45 per cent of voters now favour a Brexit from the EU, with 41 per cent opting to remain.

Government is neglecting key business decisions because 'too focused on EU fight', warns BCC boss
Dr Adam Marshall, acting director-general of the British Chambers of Commerce, has hit out at politicians for focusing all their attention on the EU and not getting the economy on 'a more solid and sustainable footing'. Marshall took over from John Longworth after he gave an incendiary pro-Brexit speech at the group's annual conference in February and subsequently resigned and joined Vote Leave. The BCC is officially neutral on the issue.

Oil price is back at $50 and could go higher - but will some top-performing income funds and trusts be at risk from the recovery?
Investors in top-performing income funds and trusts could suffer a reversal in fortune if the oil price continues to recover because many have low weightings in the sector, a leading analyst has warned. The price of Brent crude has already nearly doubled from a low of $27 a barrel in January to around $50 now, and could well carry on rising even if leading oil nations can't agree to curb production at an Opec meeting in Vienna this week.

The question now is whether with costs and regulations increasing, do you take the money on the table now, or hold on and hope you don't get caught by another tax hike?
Catch of the day: Homes with fishing rights are tempting buyers as angling grows in popularity
The sport continues to grow, with an enormous cross-section of people of widely differing ages taking to our rivers, lakes and canals. It is particularly growing in popularity with women. Research shows that 20 per cent of us have been freshwater fishing at some time over the past ten years. Which helps explain why owning the fishing rights to a river considerably enhances the value of a home - but it's difficult to say by how much.
