Superman is set to make a guest appearance on season two of Supergirl TV series this fall

Superman will be making an appearance on the TV show Supergirl this fall.

The DC Comics character, who is Supergirl's cousin, is set to appear in the beginning of season two, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

'Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape,' executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement via THR.

The show runners are currently in the midst of casting the iconic character.

'Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl,' Andrew added in the announcement. 

The action series, which was formerly on CBS, will continue on The CW this fall.

The CW network is home to three other superhero series, including The Flash, Arrow and Legends Of Tomorrow.

The lead character, Supergirl (also known as Kara Danvers) is played by actress Melissa Benoist.

Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Calista Flockhart, Jenna Dewan Tatum and Peter Facinelli are also part of the cast.

It premiered on CBS in October 2015 with 14 million viewers, according to Screenrant.com.

In May, thewrap.com reported that the show was moving to The CW; CBS and Warner Brothers Television co-own the network. 

The CW previously had a Superman-centered show - Smallville - which ran for 10 seasons from 2001 until 2011 with Tom Welling as the lead character.
