'Ikea style' pyramid of fibreglass blocks lands outside London gallery

Standing at 46 feet tall and made from 1,802 translucent fibreglass blocks, the 'Ikea style' pyramid is the latest in the annual series of summer pavilions in Kensington Gardens, west London. Designed by Danish architectures, the Bjarke Ingels Group, the fibreglass blocks are fused together to create an 'unzipped wall' that can be transformed from a straight line to a three-dimensional space. The creators, who built the pavilion in less than six months, said they wanted to work with 'one of the most basic elements of architecture' when they made the fibreglass structure that houses a Harrods café and family-friendly activities in the day and transforms into an open-air space for artists, writers and musicians by night. The pavilion is accompanied by four specially-commissioned summer houses inspired by the nearby Queen Caroline's Temple, built in 1734, and all are open to the public for free from Friday until October 9.
