Beyonce wins CFDA Fashion Icon Award and thanks mum for making early Destiny's Child costumes...as Jay Z and Blue Ivy attend event in support
Beyoncé thanked her mother on Monday for designing early Destiny's Child costumes that made her feel 'like Khaleesi' from Game Of Thrones.
The 34-year-old superstar acknowledged her family while accepting the Fashion Icon Award at the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City.
Beyoncé sparkled in a pinstriped Givenchy suit and a wide-brimmed black hat straight from her The Formation World Tour as she accepted the award from fellow fashion icon Diane von Fürstenberg.

'My mother and my Uncle Johnny, God bless his soul, designed all of our first costumes and made each piece by hand, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into every small detail,' Beyoncé said during her acceptance speech.
'When I wore these clothes on stage I felt like Khaleesi. I had an extra suit of armor,' she said in reference to the ambitious royal Daenerys Targaryen, otherwise known as Mother Of Dragons, played by Emilia Clarke on the hit HBO fantasy drama.
Beyoncé - who accessorised with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry - noted that her mother Tina Knowles, 62, was in the audience and staunchly supported her early in her career along with her 'Uncle Johnny, God bless his soul' and her grandmother.
'My mother actually designed my wedding dress, my prom dress, my first CFDA Awards dress, my first Grammy dress, and the list goes on and on and this to me is the true power and potential of fashion,' Beyoncé said.

Sparkle this season in an embellished jacket like Beyonce's
The CFDAs took place in New York last night and of course it was a very glamorous affair.
The night is all about fashion so the red carpet was awash with industry heavyweights and high end designer names. From Alexa Chung in Prabal Gurung to Karlie Kloss in Rosie Assoulin and Jourdan Dunne in Jonathan Simkhai and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Michael Kors Collection, it gave the Met Gala a run for its money.
And check out Beyonce who won the Icon Award, looking as cool as ever in a look first seen on the Givenchy Menswear Spring 2016 catwalk. We love a bit of embellishment; it's the easiest way to give your outfit some glitz, but this tailored blazer and trousers gives it modern edge too.
Sadly this ensemble isn't available online but we have found some sparkling blazers that'll do the trick and you can find them in our edit below. From Edun to ASOS. There's one for every budget.
The singer also was supported at the event held at the Hammerstein Ballroom by her 46-year-old husband Jay-Z and their four-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.
Jay looked dapper in a black tuxedo with crisp white shirt while Blue Ivy looked stylish in a black fringe dress with white jacket and a white bow in her hair.
Beyoncé was grateful upon receiving the Fashion Icon Award and said fashion always has been part of her life and it even started before she was born.

'Most of you guys don’t know this but my grandmother was a seamstress. My grandparents did not have enough money and could not afford my mother’s Catholic school tuition, so my grandmother sewed clothes for the priests and the nuns, and made uniforms for the students in exchange for my mother’s education,' she said.
Beyoncé said the gift was passed down to her mother as her grandmother taught Tina how to sew.
'When we were starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black, country, curvy girls. And we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture,' she said.

Beyoncé thanked her mother, uncle and 'my grandma' for 'showing me that having a presence is far more than the clothes you wear and your physical beauty.
'Thank you for showing me to never take no for an answer. Thank you for showing me how to take risks, work hard, and live life on my own terms,' she said.
She concluded: 'This to me is the true power and potential of fashion. It's a tool for finding your own identity. It transcends style, and it's a time capsule of all of our greatest milestones.'
The Council Of Fashion Designers Of America also recognised Marc Jacobs as the Womenswear Designer of the Year and David Bowie was honoured posthumously with The Board of Directors' Special Tribute Award.
