REFER YOURSELF TO MEDIATION

Face To Face or Shuttle Mediation

Mediation plays a vital role in settling disputes, saving couples and family members plenty of time, money and effort. When couples, ex-partners, ex-spouses or family members are experiencing conflict with each other, a mediator can use his or her diverse range of people skills to help them to communicate with each other about their concerns so that they can reach an amicable resolution. In so doing, parties embroiled in a dispute are able to avoid expensive and potentially damaging court battles.
Some of the issues that can be mediated include:
– Family disputes
– Family reunification
– Support and maintenance for the spouse
– Division of family property and assets
– Support and maintenance of the child(ren)
– Custody and access of the child(ren)
Family finances
– Liabilities and debts

Face To Face Or Shuttle Mediation – Whatever You Want, It’s Your Mediation

Face-To-Face Mediation
Face-to-face mediation, also called facilitative mediation, is a form of mediation in which the disputing parties sit at the same table where the mediation and conflict resolution is facilitated by the mediator. This type of mediation allows the parties to the dispute to communicate to one another honestly – which not only benefits a speedy, satisfactory resolution but also helps enhance the relationship between them, thereby boosting chances of realising a sustainable lasting relationship. It is usually recommended in situations where the disputing parties are comfortable voicing their opinions in the same room with the other party, and it is often very effective when dealing with certain family issues or neighbourhood disputes.
Shuttle Mediation
Shuttle mediation is a form of mediation in which the disputing parties sit in different rooms or different locations and a “go-between” mediator will discuss the issue with each one of them separately and brings the proposals (“shuttles”) from one party to the other as part of the negotiation. This type of mediation is usually the norm when direct mediation between the disputing parties either fails or is impossible due to various factors such as restraining orders, intimidation, bitterness between parties, domestic violence, emotive issues, etc. It allows each party to enjoy a safe and comfortable environment in which they can talk about their concerns, concentrate on the issues raised, and explore reality-based and achievable solutions.

When done correctly, shuttle mediation allows all parties to the dispute to have their say and the process can be completed quite quickly, providing considerable financial and emotional benefits.
