'I'm quite rigid about what I like!' Culture Club star Boy George says his androgynous look has nothing to do with being 'gender fluid' on The Project

He's the Culture Club front-man best known for his flamboyant, over-the-top outfits.

And despite pushing the boundaries on fashion, Boy George has set the record straight with any suggestions his androgynous look was ever a sign he wanted to transition or question is orientation.

Appearing on Thursday night's episode of The Project while on tour in Australia the 54-year-old joked that he knew exactly what he liked, saying: 'I wouldn't describe myself as gender fluid. I'm quite rigid about what I like.'

'I wouldn't describe myself as gender fluid': Boy George said his androgynous look was never a sign he wanted to transition or questioned is orientation during an appearance on Thursday night's episode of The Project

'Gender fluid suggests there's the possibility of change and there really isn't. I'm an old-fashioned gay man,' he added.

His comments came after the panel - including Pete Helliar, Waleed Aly, Carrie Bickmore and Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald - took a trip down memory lane with photos of the singer in the 80s sporting his beard along with hats, plenty of make-up and even long hair.

When asked about other androgynous artists that had paved the way, such as David Bowie and Prince, the Karma Chameleon hit-maker noted: 'Bowie was my biggest influence and Prince was my contemporary. He started around the same time as me.'

The singer also revealed he never thought the bearded lady look was particularly ground-breaking, having been around since the 60s.

The flamboyant performer also admitted he's never dreamed of toning down his look, saying: 'I want to get more and more outrageous.'

However, he did acknowledge these days behind-the-scenes is certainly less and less outrageous than it was in his hey-day.

'I did [go wild in the 80s] but when you realise you are the party you can chill out,' he told the panel.

The singer added he doesn't look back on that time in his life with any kind of fondness.

These days, while on tour, the performer is more concerned with getting enough sleep and resting his voice as opposed to where to party.
