'It's like a scene from Bridget Jones!' This Morning viewers are left in stitches as cameras MISS Ferne McCann's skydive for live TV

  • Ferne McCann performed a skydive on today's This Morning
  • Technical problems meant there was no live feed of brave presenter
  • Viewers were left watching grey sky waiting for her to emerge
  • Amused presenters back in the studio asked 'where is she?'
  • Many viewers found it all hilarious and shared their views on Twitter

A skydive performed on today's This Morning by Ferne McCann didn't quite turn out to be as jaw-dropping as producers hoped thanks to technical problems.

A live feed of the I'm A Celebrity star wasn't available as she jumped 17,000 foot from a plane over Wiltshire - so viewers were instead left staring at a grey sky waiting for her to emerge from the clouds.

Fans of the ITV show found the while thing hilarious, poking fun at the 'awkward' TV moment on Twitter.

Lorna Cooper was among those who was amused writing: 'Ferne McCann's live jump for the Queen's 90th birthday is the FUNNIEST thing I've seen all week.'

Jamie Bannerman agreed writing: '#FernesBigJump is honestly British TV at its best. A sky dive that is not going to plan with a really tenuous link to the Queen's birthday.'

Magic Paw tweeted that he was also ' hysterically laughing' as presenters Eamonn Holmes, Ruth Langsford and Rylan Clarke-Neale tried to follow the jump from the studio asking 'where is she? where is she?'

The presenters struggled to keep straight faces as Ferne was nowhere to be seen while Alison Hammond, waiting for her on the ground to interview her, tried to fill the awkward moment by interviewing one of the Red Devils.

As a result, Hels McGrath tweeted to say it was the 'slowest ever skydive build-up on This Morning. The Queen will be 100 before this is over.'

The former Only Way Is Essex star eventually came into view accompanied by the Red Devils and landed with a huge grin on her face.

She said she loved the whole experience and was oblivious to the fact viewers had been in the dark for most of it.

'It was amazing. It was the best thing, the adrenaline just takes over. I was so nervous going up but then you don't have really time to think about it,' she said.

It was the first time Ferne had performed a skydive as she missed out on doing one when she appeared on I'm A Celeb as she joined the jungle later than her campmates.

Back in the studio, Eamonn couldn't help joking about the technical issues saying: 'I have seldom seen such a clinical, well-planned, precise operation.'

His wife Ruth, who hadn't been able to contain her giggles throughout the awkward segment, agreed saying sarcastically it was 'technically perfect in every way'.

The show was later able to broadcast footage of Ferne's jump with Ruth saying 'this is what we were supposed to be looking at earlier'

An hour after the jump, they were finally able to show footage of the 25-year-old presenter as she leapt them the plane.

'This is what we were supposed to be looking at earlier,' Ruth said as they watched Ferne descending.

The stunt had been arranged as a tenuous link to the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations today, in homage to the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony when a double of the Monarch parachuted into the stadium.

Paul Stanworth was one of the viewers to mock the decision Tweeting: 'When @itvthismorning had a "how shall we mark the Queen's 90th" meeting, some producer said "get @fernemccann to jump out of a plane".'

Julie Ford agreed comparing it to 'a scene from Bridget Jones.'

The show also poked fun of the problems on their Twitter account in response to viewers by Tweeting: 'Well we lost her for a while but thankfully she made it down in one piece!'

Viewers joked about the scenes and the programme also saw the funny side Tweeting from their account 'Well we lost her for a while but thankfully she made it down in one piece!'
