They're not so much homes as lavish adverts for the wealth and fame of the folk inside them.

And when it comes to the Brits in Tinseltown, more is decisively... the way to stay ahead.

Last week, Adele became the latest to join the competition with a lavish £6million ($8.5million) mansion that comes with an outdoor trainset and treehouse for her son Angelo in a gated community in Beverly Hills. Her neighbours include Rod Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence and Cameron Diaz.

‘For years British stars have been vying with each other for bragging rights,’ says Hollywood estate agent Leah Lail. ‘LA homes are showcases for success. Every major property has an Olympic-sized pool, you are never too far from the beach and it’s sunny 365 days a year.

‘That’s why celebrities with children, the Beckhams and Ramsays of this world, adore it.

‘Home cinemas, games rooms, gyms and spas are all expected. In the UK some things are considered vulgar, but here anything goes.’
