HOT OR NOT: The FA made the sensible choice to scrap quarter-final replays but David Haye is wasting everybody's time

  • There will be no more FA Cup quarter-final replays from next season
  • The governing body have made the right decision in cutting extra games
  • Rafa Benitez can set Newcastle on the right course after choosing to stay
  • David Haye needs to fight a worthy opponent next time he takes to the ring

It's Hot or Not time again as RIATH AL-SAMARRAI reveals what's been making him feel warm and what's been leaving him cold.

HOT

THE FA

It might seem like a layer of tradition has been stripped away by removing FA Cup quarter-final replays.

But what has really been lost? Of 19 such replays in the past 20 years, there has not been a single shocking upset and only two penalty shootouts to get excited about.

DANNY WILLETT

Winning the Masters was bonkers and so was the media lap that followed.

But it says everything about the 28-year-old’s talent that he is already back and contending at Wentworth this week, having run Rory McIlroy close in Ireland a week ago.

RAFA BENITEZ

Amid the shambles at Newcastle, Benitez has offered some hope.

He has stayed on when he was more than qualified to go elsewhere and by assuming control of transfers he has already done more than most to set the club on the right course.

It is a thought to keep him warm during the trip to Burton next season.

CHELSEA

It was petty and gloriously symbolic of modern football, but how amusing that image rights held up the move of Jose Mourinho to Manchester United.

The Chelsea hierarchy must have loved it.

NOT

MASSIMO CELLINO

The mad king of Leeds sees no issue in publicly discussing his desire for a new manager while the current one, Steve Evans, is still in the job and firmly in the dark.

It will soon be seven managers in two years — maybe the guy choosing them just isn’t that bright.

CHRIS GAYLE

He might, by his own reckoning, have a ‘very, very, big bat’. The shame is that he would also appear to have a very, very small brain.

Beyond doubt the West Indies opener is a genius, but it really can be quite a limited term.

JESSE LINGARD

Scored the winner in the FA Cup final so what do you do next?

Ignore the reporters who want to write about your big moment and head straight for the team bus without breaking stride or even making eye contact. Good goal, poor manners.

DAVID HAYE

It is not easy for a trade publication to take a swing at one of the most marketable faces in their business.

But Boxing News labelling David Haye a ‘time waster’ on their cover was bold and spot on. Haye needs to fight some boxers worthy of the description.
