'It's hard on me': Liev Schreiber talks struggle of working in LA while Naomi Watts and their two kids are in NYC as he sits down with Ellen

Liev Schreiber has been living in LA to shoot his show Ray Donovan.

But that means he's across the country from his partner Naomi Watts and their two sons Sasha, aged eight, and Samuel Kai, aged seven.

And on Tuesday while on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 48-year-old actor discussed how that makes him feel: 'It's hard on me most, I think.'

Liev, who is in a long-term relationship with Watts, 47, added: 'You have to put them first at a certain point, and the back-and-forth thing can get tough.'

The father of two explained that his kids live in New York City with Naomi because they are 'at that age where you kind of want them to have a continuity with friends and school.'

The Tony Award winner stars as the title character in the Showtime hit Ray Donovan, which films in Los Angeles with up to 16-hour work days.

The screen star, who is in the midst of promoting the fourth season of the show, looked handsome in a striped top, black blazer and matching hued trousers.

Liev told Ellen that the family uses FaceTime regularly, but jokes the kids are 'bored' of it.

During his appearance, Ellen offered him a shot of tequila, which he accepted; following his drink, he talked about  the 'Willy Dance.'

He jokingly explained that he does the 'Willy Dance' with his sons to dry off after bathing in order to prevent chafing.

Liev and Naomi have been in a relationship for 11 years; they welcomed their first son, Sasha, in 2007, followed by Samuel in 2008.
