The Selma star also talked to Us Weekly about her new role as Mavis in family drama Greenleaf.

Creator Craig Wright had originally written the role of Mae for her, the steely wife of a powerful bishop, but when she read the script she instantly knew it was the wrong fit.

'The instant I read it I said "No, the person who should play this is Lynn Whitfield," She then asked Wright for another role, 'I can be a sister or something.' So Oprah took on the role as Mae's straight-shooting estranged sibling while Whitfield took on the role of Mae. Greenleaf premieres on OWN June 21.
