It's just two weeks into their high profile love affair, and already there's trouble in paradise for Lindsay Lohan and Calum Best.

The couple - who are each notorious for churning through romantic partners - engaged in a "screamfest" at New York's Soho Grand.

The nasty lovers quarrel, rumour to be over Best's womanising ways, began in the penthouse but quickly moved to the hotel's lobby.

A source told the New York Post: "Calum's clothes were torn, and after a few minutes, they got back into the elevator and went back to their room."

Best was allegedly caught in his hotel room in bed with another woman, ordering up more alcohol at around 4am.

It's not the first time Best has shown his lothario colours: reports have surfaced claiming he was cozying up to another girl while holidaying with Lohan in the Bahamas, and taking phone numbers from models during a night at New York's Cipriani Downtown.

The couple, who first met in London last November, have been keeping very close company since rekindling their romance last week, and Best has already been introduced to Lohan's mother Dina.

The New York Post reported Lohan's pals aren't keen on her new beau, the son of football great George Best.

One said: "All her friends wish Calum would go back to London. He's just using her."

Meanwhile, trouble is not confined to Lohan's love life - she has found herself at the centre of a legal drama.

The district attorney's office declined to file felony grand theft charges against Lohan on May 9 because of insufficient evidence, spokeswoman Jane Robison said.

A woman claimed that Lohan walked away with a shirt and other clothing after visiting her apartment while she was away for a few days.

The rejection notice said a housesitter had invited Lohan over and told authorities that she had given Lohan some clothing.

However, a plaid shirt that Lohan supposedly was wearing did not match photos of a shirt that the alleged victim said was missing.

"The bottom line is that Lohan can't be shown to have been seen either taking or to have been later in possession of missing items and items she can be shown to have possessed were with (the housesitter's) permission," Deputy District Attorney Greg Somes wrote in the rejection notice.

An e-mail to a representative for Lohan seeking comment was not immediately returned.
