Jury finds football player Brandon Vandenburg GUILTY of raping girl in dorm room

A jury has found a former Vanderbilt football player guilty on all charges for his role in the rape of an unconscious woman. Brandon Vandenburg (pictured center and inset) broke down in tears as he was found guilty by the jury in Nashville of raping the woman who he was dating at the time in his Vanderbilt dorm room three years ago. The jury took four hours to make their decision and delivered their verdict just after 8.20pm local time. Vandenburg now faces a potential jail sentence of up to 25 years and was taken into custody as soon as the verdicts were read out while his mother began to cry. Vandenburg and his former teammate Cory Batey were convicted last year but the verdicts were thrown out after it was revealed that a juror had not disclosed that he had been a victim of statutory rape. The defense had maintained that Vandenburg was a newly-arrived recruit to the Nashville school and had asked teammates outside the dorm to help him carry the unconscious woman into his room after he couldn't get her into her apartment (right). The retrial comes amid a furor over the six-month sentence former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner was given for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman.

In another snap taken by a friend during a trip to India, the young Royal - showing off her figure in a tiny, coral-coloured bikini - drinks a fizzy drink through a straw (left). Inside empty Las Vegas homes invaded by squatters

The Las Vegas area is grappling with a squatter problem, fueled by a big inventory of empty houses abandoned by people with deep financial problems when the economy crashed. Las Vegas police don't have a dedicated squatter unit, but received at least 4,458 squatter-related service calls in Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County last year, more than double the tally in 2012. In North Las Vegas, police, code enforcement and utilities officials use paperwork traps to spot fake rental contracts and push squatters out. Officials said it's easy to draw up a bogus lease. Officers recently cleared a two-story house in May where a woman and five children lived for eight months, with no water service. An open box of Pop-Tarts, a child's bicycle, furniture, barbecue, mop, water bottles and other items were still inside the home (left and bottom right) on a recent visit.
