LeBron James delivers on promise to lead hometown franchise Cleveland Cavaliers to NBA glory as he leaves Golden State Warriors' MVP Steph Curry in his shadow

'My goal is to win as many titles as possible, no question. But what's most important for me is bringing one trophy back to Northeast Ohio.'

They were the words uttered by LeBron James in July 2014 as he sealed a move back to Cleveland Cavaliers after previously turning his back on his hometown team.

Supporters of the Cavs burned 'James 23' jerseys after he announced his 'Decision' to join Miami Heat over committing his future to the team which drafted him in 2003.

James went as far as revealing who he would join after leaving the Cavs on an ESPN TV special named 'The Decision' on July 8, 2010.

New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers and the Cavs were among the franchises interested in James but he found the lure of playing alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami too much to turn down.

LeBron went onto win back-to-back titles at the Heat but his dream of becoming a champion at the Cavs remained as strong as ever.

Six years on and LeBron has created history with the Cavs by leading the franchise to their first NBA title and the first major championship for the city of Cleveland since NFL side Cleveland Browns tasted glory way back in 1964.

LeBron has played a key role in not only forming the roster at the Quicken Loans Arena but also choosing the head coach.

Unhappy with plying his trade under David Blatt, who was fired in January, LeBron put his faith in assistant coach Tyronn Lue to lead the Cavs to the Finals.

LeBron's influence in the locker room on players such as Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love have seen the Cavs transform into a championship-winning team.

James leads the team talks before, during and after games. He also vents his frustrations to Lue.

He's a natural-born winner who strives for the best and will not rest on his laurels after one title with his hometown franchise.

ODDS WERE AGAINST CLEVELAND

History was against Cleveland Cavaliers as no team in an NBA Finals series had come back from 3-1 down to win.

All 32 previous teams who had been in that situation lost after falling behind while only two teams had forced a Game 7. Cleveland, however, made it lucky 33.

Yes, Stephen Curry was crowned the league's MVP but it is King James who has the trophy that the Golden State Warriors star wanted to retain.

Curry will have to settle for being the Prince of the NBA, while LeBron holds onto his crown.

LeBron scored 27 points, claimed 11 assists and 11 rebounds in Sunday night's crucial Game 7, with his deputy Irving also starring with strong figures.

Curry, on the other hand, could only manage 17 points on a disappointing night at the Oracle Arena.

He was expected to help protect his homecourt but was outshone by LeBron, Irving and Co on a memorable night for the Cavs.

LeBron said after Game 7 that he put 'blood, sweat and tears' into his performance in order to create history.

'I gave it everything that I had. I poured my heart, my blood, my sweat and my tears into this game,' an emotional James said after the game.

No team had ever won the NBA Finals from 3-1 down but LeBron's magic with the basketball ended that trend.

President Obama took time out of his busy schedule to tweet a congratulations message to LeBron while NBA legends past and present also followed suit.

Magic Johnson, who won five NBA titles during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, tweeted after Sunday's action: 'LeBron James delivered on his promise to bring a championship to Cleveland, now if he decides to leave nobody can be mad at him.'

I'm sure you will see far fewer 'LeBron 23' jerseys burned if he does decide to jump ship once again.
