Not much shocks me after 33 years as a journalist in the news business, but Britain's decision to leave the European Union is a truly staggering, historic and earth-shattering moment which I never thought would happen.Full disclosure now it's all over: I voted against Brexit and for Remain. My reason? The EU is indisputably a badly-run, antiquated organisation in desperate need of major reform, but to my mind that reform would be far better achieved by Britain staying inside it and leading the charge of change.

NEW Hillary Clinton on Friday sought to turn her Brexit blunder into a positive for her presidential campaign. 'This time of uncertainty only underscores the need for calm, steady, experienced leadership in the White House,' she said. Drawing on her campaign slogan - 'stronger together'  - Clinton said Britain's shocking European Union exit 'underscores the need for us to pull together to solve our challenges as a country, not tear each other down.' Like President Barack Obama, Clinton had favored British Prime Minister David Cameron's push for the United Kingdom to 'Remain' in the EU.

Several Leave voters today revealed their unease over the referendum result as David Cameron dramatically stepped down and the markets grappled with the financial uncertainty. One woman said she was 'disappointed' by the outcome and that, if she had the chance again, she would switch and vote to remain in the EU. Speaking at Manchester Airport, the woman, identified only as Mandy (left), said the 'reality' had now hit home. She added that she had made the original decision to the 'pressure of being told' how to vote by two competing sides. Another Leave voter, Adam (right), also said he was 'shocked' - and that he had only opted for Brexit because he didn't think his vote would matter. Other Leave voters have also shared their regret on Twitter, with one simply saying: 'I regret my vote now' (inset).

NEW David Cameron announced his plans to resign as Prime Minister this morning after the UK voted to leave the European Union in an historic referendum. Boris Johnson - known as BoJo, or just Boris, by the British public - is now odds-on to succeed Cameron after spearheading the Brexit campaign. The Conservative Member of Parliament and former Mayor of London was born on Manhattan's Upper East Side. He remained a joint U.S. citizen until last year, when he announced he was giving it up to show his commitment to Britain. He went on to study at the prestigious Eton College, where David Cameron also studied, before the pair met as part of the Bullingdon Club at Oxford University. Using bizarre, antiquated language, Johnson was known for babbling on - and has continued to use this technique to deflect tough questions as a politician.

Turning on the news to find the Leave campaign broken-hearted, Farage conceding defeat and millions of British patriots resigned to the loss of a country their grandfathers fought to defend, writes KATIE HOPKINS (left). But I've pinched myself, had coffee, checked all the papers, watched the Prime Minister resign and heard the whoops and cheers of the Leavers....Believers. And it's all still true. We're out. We voted Leave. Watching the results come in (right) was a glorious thing. A moment in history. Finally, we stood behind our big hitter. Boris Johnson. He put it all on the line. He risked it all, to be true to the vision for Britain he believes in. So as Boris surely heads for Number 10, the EU begins to implode, and Britain retakes its place as the decider of its people's destiny, I am finally able to sleep.

NEW Salt Lake City businessman Baron Brooks, 48 (pictured), says he was mortified to discover his father had secretly taken out a personal ad on his behalf looking for a potential wife and mother (main). The humiliating ad is written from Brooks' perspective, not his father's, and asks for such things as a woman who is politically conservative, saying: 'If you voted for Obama or plan to vote for Hillary you are not for me.' The ad also says that the potential suitor should be younger than 48-year-old Brooks - between 34 and 38 - and must be  'willing and able to have children as soon as possible'.

Jay Z has accused business partners Parlux Fragrances of breaching their agreement by failing to pay him royalties and devote the necessary resources to promote his men's fragrance line Gold Jay Z. The media mogul, married to Beyoncé, also accuses the company of not handing over accounting reports or business plans for the originally planned follow-up fragrances. He is suing for damages including unpaid royalties of $1,187,500, past due advertising costs totaling $1,528,425 and other damages for all the money he lost and the harm to his successful reputation. A three-ounce bottle of the men's cologne sells for $72 at Macy's.

Gunman Omar Mateen (inset) killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando and was quietly buried at the Muslim Cemetery of South Florida in Hialeah Gardens, a city in Miami-Dade County. A fresh grave covered by a temporary tent can be seen in the grounds of the property. Mateen, 29, was killed by police after he took hostages during a three-hour standoff inside the Pulse nightclub.

Gabi Grecko (left and right), a former prostitute, says she was hired by Jeremy Reichberg and Jona Rechnitz to accompany officers James Grant (inset top) and Michael Milici (inset bottom) to Las Vegas in 2013. She claims she was asked to dress as a sexy stewardess and offer the men tea and coffee, before being ordered to perform sex acts on them, often simultaneously. When the party arrived in Vegas, she claims she shacked up with Grant for the weekend, where the party watched the Super Bowl, drank, and hired more prostitutes to accompany them. Reichberg and Grant have been charged with corruption along with NYPD Deputy Chief Michael Harrington.

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. Dozens of bomb sniffing dogs have been killed by an American security company after its contract with an oil firm ended, animal rights activists have claimed. Eastern Securities of Kuwait has been accused of murdering the dogs because they were no longer needed after its deal with Kuwait National Petroleum Company ran out. At least 24 dogs were slaughtered. Pictures of their dead bodies were posted on Facebook, including an image showing a worker standing on top of one of the canines (right). One horrifying picture shows the dead dogs piled up (left), while another shows two gloating workers standing over one of the animals (inset). Animal rights campaigners called for the security firm to be prosecuted.

The Duchess of Cambridge (second left), pictured at a gala dinner in Norfolk last night, is noticably more angular than the plump cheeked student who dated Prince William. Myleene Klass (second right) looks gaunt since slimming down from a size 12 to a size six. Nicole Kidman has slimmed down as she's aged, and developed a severe look (right) and super slim Nicole Richie (left) is a world away from her curiver days in The Simple LIfe.

Just feet away from Nasa's Curiosity rover, Youtube user Paranormal Crucible claims a tiny humanoid alien can be seen spying from behind a Martian rock. UFO hunters estimate it is six inches tall.

American sports stars are baring all once again for ESPN's Body Issue Magazine. USA soccer star Christen Press, 27, features on one of the new front covers and told the magazine about her struggles with body image in the past. Also posing for the series is Greg Louganis, 56, one of history's greatest Olympic divers who has lived with HIV for around 30 years.

Disgruntled shoppers have revealed the dangers of not reading the small print in a series of funny snaps shared online. Pictured clockwise, from top left: One man bought a rug for his room, only to find it was actually for a doll's house; another woman bought a rucksack that only her kitten could wear. A mother was mocked by her daughter for accidentally buying miniature deckchairs for the garden; while another was fooled by a pair of tiny boots. One woman bought a phone case that inexplicably featured a picture of a man who had his face covered with a meat pie; and another woman bought a pair of tiny gold leggings that only the Borrowers could wear.

The incident happened in a poor neighborhood of the Chilean capital city Santiago, where unfortunately a teenager died in the fire. Footage show various police officers desperately trying to break open the entrance to the house as cries for help can be heard from inside. One of the officers finally manages to break open the door using a large object and the woman (pictured inset) is pulled out of the flames and dragged to safety as the fire continues to rage.

An unidentified four-year-old boy went missing in Ravenswood after jumping in the water on Thursday. Rescue efforts were hampered by a lightning storm and strong currents. The eight-year-old boy and an elderly man both drowned in the floodwaters.

Gates Candy - advertising cold soda, ice cream and coffee - in Bushwick was raided on Thursday morning and found to have a major drug supply business operating out of a secret back room. Police say the discovery came during a routine inspection of untaxed cigarettes by a Department of Finance inspector in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick on Wednesday night. A narcotics team then returned to Gates Candy & Grocery on Gates Avenue on Thursday morning and seized over $100,000 worth of drugs (main). Two men were arrested in the relation to the haul. Pictures taken by police at the scene show an entire truck full of packages that were seized.

President Barack Obama called Tyronn Lue, coach of the champion Cleveland Cavaliers team, to offer his congratulations after the team's NBA win and to tell him to have his team 'put on a shirt'. In a call filmed by host of ESPN's The Jump, Rachel Nichols, Lue can be heard speaking to the president as he praises the team's historic victory. He then sets his sights on J.R. Smith. 'Tell J.R. and everybody to put on a shirt though,' Obama says.

Dachshunds Maya and Peanut, and Minnie the hedgehog are one very happy family from Woking, Surrey, whose antics are supervised by adoring owner Natasha Fernandes. Minnie is the oldest at four years and seven months. She is an African pygmy hedgehog, which are bred as pets because they must be kept at a constant temperature to live and cannot survive in the wild. The trio have been delighting the internet with their antics since 2015 and they now have over 28,000 followers on their Instagram account @mayathesausage.

A funny video filmed in São Paolo Brazil shows a little golden retriever ever so slowly approaching a stuffed toy in full stealthy hunting mode. The embodiment of stealth, it silently stalks forward before crouching down low and staring down its waiting prey. The pooch presses its nose to the floor as though to track the 'lion' better. He comes to a stop just in front of the soft animal and can be seen giving a sneaky glance at his owner as he prepares to pounce... And suddenly he's off. The dog grabs the toy in his mouth and leaps out of sight - mission complete.

With celebrities such as Kim Kardashian (inset) and Instagram stars 'twinning' with their children, writer Mieka Smiles, 34, from Middlesbrough, spent a week wearing matching clothes with her three-year-old daughter Harriet. She enjoyed wearing the same dungarees (right) and received compliments for their striped dresses (left) but she felt self-conscious when they both donned the same sparkly jacket and jeans (centre), but as the experiment progressed her little girl was desperate to dress up for fun and wear clothes of her own.

Steven Schneider, from Georgia, was the only person on a flight to Atlanta. He realised this after seeing no queue at his boarding gate in New Orleans airport on Tuesday. In the pictures below, Schneider, posing with a member of cabin crew, demonstrates the rows of empty seats behind him on the flight.

A Canadian-born filmmaker has been pictured diving into the enclosure of a five-metre-long saltwater crocodile (left) with nothing but a plastic tube for protection. Franny Plumridge, who lives and works in Byron Bay in the south-east of New South Wales, can be seen submerged in the crocodile's tank while it floats with its jaws open next to her. The enormous crocodile is part of the 'Cage of Death' exhibit (right) at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin City in the Northern Territory and Australia's only crocodile dive.

A Queensland man has posted footage online showing him rescuing a colourful sea eel on the Gold Coast, after it swallowed three hooks and wrapped itself in fishing line. David Wyatt, who was doing a clean up dive in the Gold Coast Seaway when he found the creature, uses the help of another diver to free the eel, before it swims away and recovers on the sandy riverbed.
