David Cameron says he will QUIT as British Prime Minister after Brexit vote

British Prime Minister David Cameron (pictured center) has said he will resign as prime minister after Britain voted to leave the European Union. Mr Cameron tried to reassure businesses around the world that Britain's economy was fundamentally sound but world markets were thrown into turmoil on Friday after the final vote was announced (right). Mr Cameron said he would stay on for three months and New York-born Boris Johnson, the former Mayor of London who led the 'leave' campaign (members pictured left), is the hot favorite to replace him. The historic result sent the British pound plummeting to a 31-year low, one of its biggest one-day falls in all time, dropping from about $1.50 to below $1.35. US markets were expected to open down 550 points on Friday morning. Trading in Tokyo was halted after stocks plunged nearly 7 per cent, while South Korea's Kospi tumbled about 4 per cent. Crude oil prices also took a hit.

Britain's exit from Europe should leave Hillary Clinton shaking in her boots

Not much shocks me after 33 years as a journalist in the news business, but Britain's decision to leave the European Union is a truly staggering, historic and earth-shattering moment which I never thought would happen.Full disclosure now it's all over: I voted against Brexit and for Remain. My reason? The EU is indisputably a badly-run, antiquated organisation in desperate need of major reform, but to my mind that reform would be far better achieved by Britain staying inside it and leading the charge of change.

Eurosceptic parties across the continent are intensifying demands for their own referendums in the wake of the Brexit vote, sparking fears of Swedish, Danish and Czech exit from the union.

Donald Trump blasts Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and blames them for Brexit

The Republican presidential candidate traveled to his Scottish golf course where he said Obama's urging Britain to stay had prompted voters to back leaving the European Union. He went on to blame Hillary Clinton too saying she had 'doubled down' on Obama's position. 'She's always misread everything, if you think. She's misread this,' he said. He said he believed voters had 'taken back their country' and that the same was going to happen in the United States

Clinton says Brexit 'only underscores the need for calm, steady, experienced leadership in

NEW Hillary Clinton on Friday sought to turn her Brexit blunder into a positive for her presidential campaign. 'This time of uncertainty only underscores the need for calm, steady, experienced leadership in the White House,' she said. Drawing on her campaign slogan - 'stronger together'  - Clinton said Britain's shocking European Union exit 'underscores the need for us to pull together to solve our challenges as a country, not tear each other down.' Like President Barack Obama, Clinton had favored British Prime Minister David Cameron's push for the United Kingdom to 'Remain' in the EU.

Public who backed Leave Brexit vote now say they want to STAY in the EU

Several Leave voters today revealed their unease over the referendum result as David Cameron dramatically stepped down and the markets grappled with the financial uncertainty. One woman said she was 'disappointed' by the outcome and that, if she had the chance again, she would switch and vote to remain in the EU. Speaking at Manchester Airport, the woman, identified only as Mandy (left), said the 'reality' had now hit home. She added that she had made the original decision to the 'pressure of being told' how to vote by two competing sides. Another Leave voter, Adam (right), also said he was 'shocked' - and that he had only opted for Brexit because he didn't think his vote would matter. Other Leave voters have also shared their regret on Twitter, with one simply saying: 'I regret my vote now' (inset).

Who is Boris Johnson? Meet the zip-lining American-born eccentric who is favorite to

NEW David Cameron announced his plans to resign as Prime Minister this morning after the UK voted to leave the European Union in an historic referendum. Boris Johnson - known as BoJo, or just Boris, by the British public - is now odds-on to succeed Cameron after spearheading the Brexit campaign. The Conservative Member of Parliament and former Mayor of London was born on Manhattan's Upper East Side. He remained a joint U.S. citizen until last year, when he announced he was giving it up to show his commitment to Britain. He went on to study at the prestigious Eton College, where David Cameron also studied, before the pair met as part of the Bullingdon Club at Oxford University. Using bizarre, antiquated language, Johnson was known for babbling on - and has continued to use this technique to deflect tough questions as a politician.

As Britain woke up to news of the historic Brexit vote, Remain voters were quick to make light of their dismay with memes on social media, including many that envisaged the end of the UK.

KATIE HOPKINS says Britain reclaimed its birthright with Brexit

Turning on the news to find the Leave campaign broken-hearted, Farage conceding defeat and millions of British patriots resigned to the loss of a country their grandfathers fought to defend, writes KATIE HOPKINS (left). But I've pinched myself, had coffee, checked all the papers, watched the Prime Minister resign and heard the whoops and cheers of the Leavers....Believers. And it's all still true. We're out. We voted Leave. Watching the results come in (right) was a glorious thing. A moment in history. Finally, we stood behind our big hitter. Boris Johnson. He put it all on the line. He risked it all, to be true to the vision for Britain he believes in. So as Boris surely heads for Number 10, the EU begins to implode, and Britain retakes its place as the decider of its people's destiny, I am finally able to sleep.
