And nearly 20 years on, Kate Beckinsale proved that she was perfectly at home in the States as she enjoyed a dinner date with a pal in LA, on Monday.

The 42-year-old oozed glamour as she stepped out in an all black outfit for the meal and flaunted her endless legs in a pair of skin-tight leather trousers.

And she maintained her chic black look as she accessorised with some stylish ankle boots and an patent leather handbag, which she toted proudly on the crutch of her arm.

The brunette beauty looked enviably tanned in the dark ensemble and opted to complement her sun-kissed glow with a bronze smokey eyeshadow and carefully placed contouring on her cheeks.

Kate Beckinsale is the latest style star to embrace the off shoulder trend.

Kourtney Kardashian, Nicole Richie, Michelle Keegan, Gigi Hadid and Olivia Palermo have all been spotted rocking Bardot neckline tops so you know this is one story which is here to stay.

Reflecting on travelling to New York for a role in the 1998 film The Last Days of Disco, the brunette beauty admitted she was overwhelmed with fear about going alone.

Speaking to LA Confidential she remembered thinking, '"Oh my God, none of my friends are free, my boyfriend's busy, and my mom can't come.

'I have to go to New York and be by myself."'

But luckily for the star she managed to adjust to moving cities as she explained: 'I sort of let off into the unknown world of Whit Stillman and disco dancing...and I'm really glad I did.'
