Posh, pictured modelling for British designer Maria Grach-vogel, is experiencing a career low, with the Spice Girls announcing they are on indefinite hiatus — not that it’s affecting her spectacularly buoyant bosom. Yet even her cleavage can’t save her debut album, which fails to get to No 1 in August, despite a huge publicity campaign

On her way out of celebrity-packed restaurant The Ivy in 2001, Victoria’s outfit leaves nothing to the imagination. Her eye-catching outfits and increased embonpoint see her splashed across all the newspapers — which is just as well, as she can do with all the publicity she can get — her solo album only got to Number 10 in the UK album chart despite costing £5 million to produce.

Flashy but desperate for attention at the 2003 MTV awards in Los Angeles, Victoria sports that unholy trinity of a Ronseal tan, giant breasts and Disney princess hair extensions which became her signature look. The Beckhams are both experiencing career crises. Alex Ferguson sold Manchester United player David to Real Madrid this year, saying he had to go because he thought he was bigger than the manager, while Victoria is desperately trying to resuscitate her music career. She signed with the almost-bankrupt label Telstar and was working with rapper Damon Dash. When Dash fell out with Spice Girls Svengali Simon Fuller, the label went bust, a solo album never saw the light of day — and Posh’s pop career was finally over

Has heartbreak ever looked more alarming? It’s 2004 and gossip over David’s alleged liaison with his PA, Rebecca Loos, is raging — she said they were an item for four months when they were in Madrid and Victoria had stayed in London, trying to sustain her pop career. Victoria responded with a slash of bright red lipstick, blonde highlights — and those ever-more prominent bosoms

Sticking with the Marbella Barbie look at a fashion party in Monaco in 2005, Victoria has given up on music and now wants to be a designer — but no one takes her seriously. She looks to be a 34DD at least - indicating a second breast enhancement as she copes with her martial crisis. It's not the best of times. She - and the other WAGs - are blamed for England's woeful performance.

Busting out of her bustier, Victoria is back with her former bandmates for the Spice Girls 2007 reunion tour. She agrees to the tour because it is being put together by her manager Simon Fuller, will net her a small fortune and means her children can see her on stage. But getting back together is such an unhappy experience that they cancel the later dates. Making it in fashion seems a long way off — there was apparently audible sniggering when she showed up at Marc Jacobs’ show that year. Her chest is mesmerising, though. Dr Persico says: ‘Her breasts are bulging out of her top and are far too big for her naturally small frame’

Bye bye hair extensions and over-inflated bosoms, hello a new, more sophisticated Victoria in 2009. She is interviewed by Vogue magazine and observes: ‘Torpedo bazookas, gone.’ Pictured here courtside at a basketball game, she and the family have moved to Los Angeles and later this year she will launch her own fashion label — with backing from Fuller. Dr Persico says: ‘From here onwards, Victoria seems more comfortable in her body and with herself and is more natural looking than ever before. ‘Her breasts are in perfect proportion with her body.’ Her large implants seem to have been replaced with small, subtle ones, which are much more in keeping with her new, very fashionable image

Every inch the fashionista, without even a hint of bosom, seen here at an event in 2010 with her designer friend, Roland Mouret. Her bust may be the smallest it’s ever been, but her personal life has never been happier. This year she is nominated for her first British Fashion Award — although she won’t win for another couple of years. Interestingly, her backer Simon Fuller also invests in Mouret. Some observed that in the early collections the tailoring was very similar. He said: ‘Can she call me a mentor? Yes. I gave her advice, some names, and allowed her to call me when she wants. That’s all.’ David, meanwhile, is thriving at LA Galaxy
