'If anyone breaks into my house, I'll be fully prepared': Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie reveals she sleeps next to her character Harley Quinn's baseball bat

Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie has revealed that she sleeps next to her character Harley Quinn's baseball bat.

The Australian actress, 26, joked that she keeps the weapon by her bed at night in case anyone breaks into her house.

The bat, which is emblazoned with the words 'good night', is wielded by her bad girl character in the upcoming blockbuster.

'In case anyone breaks into my house, I'll be fully prepared,' she told News Corp Australia.

'Plus when I go to sleep it says 'good night'.'

It comes one day after a 'sexist' and 'patronising' Vanity Fair interview with the star prompted global outrage.

The profile, penned by Rich Cohen, was slammed on social media after it compared Australia to 'America 50 years ago' and described the country as a place for 'throwback people'.

Margot also spoke to News Corp about the provocative outfit she wore to play her psychotic character in Suicide Squad.

But she said her boyfriend, who lives with her in London, has never asked her to wear Harley's hot pants and fishnets in the bedroom.

'He ... no he hasn't (asked),' Robbie said. 'That would be very weird.'

Suicide Squad, which also stars Carla Delevingne as Enchantress, Ben Affleck as Batman and Jared Leto as The Joker, hits theatres on August 5.

Margot appeared at the highly anticipated launch of the new Tarzan film in Beijing on Thursday.

The blonde beauty and her co-star Alexander Skarsgard showed how close they have become and wrapped their arms around one another as they beamed for the cameras.

Her appearance came hours after the Vanity Fair interview sparked a furious response.

The article poked fun at Australia's entertainment industry and claimed that all Aussies still 'live and die with the plot turns of soap operas'.

Cohen prompted further outrage by declaring that the world-famous actress grew up in the 'isolated' Gold Coast - a bustling metropolitan region which attracts millions of tourists each year.
