In recent days the film has made headlines for featuring the sci-fi franchise's first openly gay character in its 60-year history.
Captain Hikaru Sulu, who has appeared in the beloved series since the 1960s, will be married to a man in the third installment of JJ. Abrams' film reboot.
Screenwriter and actor Simon Pegg and director Justin Lin revealed that they had decided to make the character gay to pay homage to George Takei who played Sulu for years in the original Star Trek television series and movies.
Takei, 79, came out in 2005 and is a passionate activist for LGBT rights.

Gemma recently said that she planned to give up acting and retrain as a yoga teacher in Morocco for six years but finally took the plunge in 2015 after being persuaded by a friend.
Speaking to Digital Spy and her new career, Gemma explained: 'Yoga is my life at the moment, so it doesn't ever feel like something I'm "falling back on".
'I do it day to day, but then if another [acting] job comes in and it suits me, it's all quite flexible.'
Gemma's Hollyoaks character Carmel McQueen was killed off in 2014 and she took a year out to focus on her new role, but inside the studio, Gemma says she's a completely different woman.
