Kind policeman hailed a hero after he helped a confused woman with dementia home from the supermarket – letting her hold his hand all the way

A kind policeman has been hailed a hero after helping a confused woman with dementia home from the supermarket and letting her hold his hand the whole way.
The officer, known only as PC Dave, also helped put the woman's shopping away before placing her flowers on her windowsill when he came to her rescue in Sainsbury's.
The pensioner had become distressed at the checkout after realising she had not taken her purse to pay for her groceries.

Staff at the store in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, then contacted the police as she became increasingly upset.
When officers arrived at the store to help the woman, the dementia sufferer was scared and did not want to let go of PC Dave's hand.
He then allowed her to hold his hand all the way back home while he kept his hand on the gear stick.
Once back home, PC Dave helped the woman put her shopping away and put her flowers on display.

He also put her flowers on her windowsill. The woman had become distressed after forgetting her purse when she went to buy groceries at Sainsbury's
The heartwarming moment was shared by West Yorkshire Police on the force's Facebook page and has been liked over 24,000 times.
Staff at Sainbury's have also been praised for giving then woman her shopping for free.
One social media user, Jason Stonier said: 'Well done coppers. At the end of the day - we all bleed the same colour.
'Well done Sainbury's staff, very kind of you to pay for the lady's shopping.'
Another poster, Meg North, commented: 'A delightful story of a caring police officer helping a confused elderly lady.'
