Living in a Christian community

The Shelter ministry is a great way to experience living in a Christian community. Besides providing a place to rest, the community house is also a place to enjoy fellowship with one another. As a volunteer at the Shelter, you are given the luxury of not having to rent a room in the city. You will be living in our Christian community with the rest of our volunteers in the beautiful Jordaan area of Amsterdam. This community house is not only located in a great area but it is also just a quick five to ten minute bike ride to or from the Shelter City Hostel and the Shelter Jordan Hostel.

More about our Christian community

There is a caring married couple who takes care of the Christian community and all the volunteers who live there. They welcome each new team member and create a comfortable home-like atmosphere. The Shelter community house provides bedrooms to accommodate two or three persons per room, a big living room, library, internet, and other facilities. Here, you will also find the classroom for the Ministry Training Program.

Benefits of living in a Christian community

Some of the benefits of living in a Christian community include:

  • The chance to participate in small group meetings and monthly events where most of the staff come together for a time of prayer and worship.
  • Living in a Christian community allows you the opportunity to learn more about yourself and how to best serve others. Here you will experience living in a Christian community of people from various cultures and backgrounds. This Christian community is where you can see much diversity but the unity that comes in Christ.
  • Living in a community is a great place to develop your social skills, to mature as a person in your walk with God and to grow as Christians together.
  • Staff living in Christian community is beneficial to the ministry. The Christian community equips the staff to serve practically and spiritually. Spiritual growth individually within the community and the unity of the community helps to put faith into practice. The sense of community will overflow into the hostels to provide open means of sharing Christ with the guests.
