TV viewers tune in to budget drama

From the warmth of their living room thousands of viewers tuned in to watch ABC presenters freeze as they dissected Joe Hockey's second Budget.

The ABC staff battled howling winds and freezing temperatures to present their Budget coverage in the courtyard of Parliament House on Tuesday night. It seemed the puffy parkers and scarves were a hit with 600,000 viewers tuning in.

The treasurer's speech on Tuesday night was an even bigger draw card for the ABC with 733,000 viewers tuning in - proving more popular than reality series Reno Rumble (718,000) and House Rules (675,000) and even the usually popular Big Bang Theory (526,000).

The ratings win, however, went to Network 10's MasterChef with 1.21 million viewers according to OzTAM's overnight ratings.
