Trump and Pence boldly go where no candidate has gone before: The new 'Make America Great Again' plane was wrapped in STAR TREK artwork just last week

  • Donald Trump press charter plane that will double as Mike Pence's campaign aircraft was wrapped in 'Star Trek Beyond' art last week
  • Paramount and the rebooted Eastern Air Lines put the Starship Enterprise on the tail of the Boeing 737 along with a giant nebula along the side
  • Reporters are sharing the plane with Pence's staff and a contingent of Secret Service agents while Pence flies with Trump aboard his bigger jet
  • Souped-up 'Trump Force Two' has room for just 64 passengers and everyone gets a first-class seat

Donald Trump's campaign press corps is poised to go where no candidate has gone before: aboard a charter plane that was an airborne billboard for the latest Star Trek movie just a few days ago.

Trump may have his company logo on the tail of his own custom Boeing 757, but reporters' ride starting Monday is a 737 that featured the Starship Enterprise last week.

The new addition, christened Trump Force Two – 'TF2' for short – took off from New York's La Guardia airport for a one-hour hop to Roanoke, Virginia just after noon on Monday.

It most recently served as a promotional vehicle for Paramount's 'Star Trek Beyond,' wrapped in the film's logo and the giant swirling nebula that provides the setting for most of the new sci-fi movie.

There are no transporters available on board, however, leaving passengers to whisk along up to 41,000 feet in the air at 530 miles per hour – far slower than warp speed.

And it can't fire photon torpedoes at Hillary Clinton.

But the plane flew VIP guests last Thursday from Los Angeles to San Diego for the movie's world premiere.

'We're greatly honored to help make America great again. Sit back and enjoy your flight,' captain Jason Frymyer told a mixture of reporters, Secret Service agents and staffers for vice presidential nominee Mike Pence.

The new Trump charter will never be overrun with passengers: Instead of the standard complement of 137 seats, the 8-year-old aircraft is equipped with just 64.

And they're all first-class, two on each side of the aisle. Almost as big as Captain Kirk's chair on the Enterprise's bridge.

Outside, there's no trace left of the Star Trek artwork. In its place is a giant 'TRUMP/PENCE' campaign logo stretches along the side above the windows, along with the 'MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN' slogan.

And a U.S. flag decal replaced the Enterprise on the plane's tail.

The plane itself has a name – 'Spirit of the American Soldier' – which is painted below the cockpit window.

CAPTAIN KIRK AND MR. SPOCK? Trump and his running make Mike Pence contracted a plane that was a tribute to the Starship Enterprise last Thursday, and Pence will make it his official campaign plane this week

Sen. Bernie Sanders contracted with the same charter company Trump's campaign is using, according to TF2's crew.

Officially, the 737 is Pence's campaign plane, although he flew Monday with Trump aboard the real estate tycoon's larger jet.

The running mates will have separate itineraries after Wednesday, with Pence taking TF2 for himself.

Flying on a charter isn't cheap, but newspapers, TV networks and wire services pay for the privilege when there's no way to cover all a candidate's events with commercial flights.

On Monday after Trump's town hall in Roanoke, he will hold a rally in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The plane will spent the overnight in Charlotte, where Trump is scheduled to address the VFW's annual convention on Tuesday morning.

Nearly every day this week will have multiple events, making Trump Force One and Trump Force Two the only rides that can make them all.

Inside, the press plane's cabin has the feel of all-business-class carriers like SilverJet, which once flew daily between Washington and London.

But this plane is branded with the logo of Eastern Air Lines, which went belly-up in 1991.

Last year a new ownership group bought the company's name, the logo and all its trademarks.

Now it flies charters for Major League baseball teams, college sports and other special one-off occasions – including flights between Miami, Florida and Havana, Cuba.

With no power outlets, reporters will have to charge their laptops before takeoff. But there is WiFi aboard, kicking in at 10,000 feet.

Catered meals are part of the drill, too, with sandwiches, chips, fruit, soft drinks and coffee available.

And the best part, according to veteran campaign-trail journalists: No TSA screening.

Instead, Secret Service agents pre-screen reporters' bags before putting them on a bus that drives onto the tarmac and parks within 100 feet of the plane.

And the Service has to pre-approve every passenger. Unlike with Delta or United, a Social Security Number is required.

On Monday The Republican nominee's personal ride – Trump Force One – was lined up tail-to-tail with TF2 at La Guardia.

Reporters rolled their baggage up to a planeside ramp and climbed a mobile staircase to the aircraft door, 1950s-style.

Trump's campaign has experimented with press charter flights before, working with three different companies to date.

One flight drew unwanted media attention when repoters grumbled about the cost of a round-trip charter to Scotland, where Trump was cutting the ribbon on a refurbished golf course.

Campaign insiders say it's possible Trump could take another overseas trip before Election Day, with a diplomacy tour in mind.

That might make Israel – not outer space – his final frontier.
